Was the Kubelwagens of the Afrika Korps equipped with special cooling for desert ? (oil cooler, large fan, etc...)

Thanks!

No

The bodies of the Afrika Korps Kubels were modified with scoops over the air intake louvers to take intake air from the interior of the car, but there was no special cooling apparatus for the engine.

As the Baron says scoops were fitted, the so called Tropen scoops, but these were not specific to Africa, were not present early in the campaign and have nothing to do with cooling, they prevent excessive ingestion of dust.

Thank you very much for your answers.

Today there are people distressed about the possibility that the standard cooling maybe be low in warm weather ... and always I said that this system was tested with reliable on african campaings.

But I had the doubt that if african equipment was special or not.

Its usually the people running an engine with half the tin missing, saying "these engines run hot" and then look for some kind of JC Whitney scoop/mod to help it out...

Not only were they reliable, they were superior to most of there watercooled contemporaries in that theater. No need for condensors on radiators like the long range jeeps of the SAS, or jerry cans of water for boiling over radiators designed for cooler climates, all in an enviroment where water was as precious as gasoline, and the indirect benefit of a lighter vehicle less likely to bog down in soft sand.
