Hi there
I am just about to do some work on my brakes (73 german 181) and found this great picture of how things should look when you're done ( its beautiful comite27)...

I had a couple of questions as my in situ MC is different to the one that I ordered from Thing shop. New one is exactly same as in the link above. My question is this, the existing MC only has four outlets (one for the rear brakes that leads to a T section then to each wheel - one each for both the fronts and the sensor) where as the new one has 5 outlets - so I don't quite know what to do with this extra outlet. It came with the same white plastic plugs that can be seen in the link above. Do you put a bolt in there, leave the white plastic plug in place or is my current setup (with 4 outlets) somehow wrong?
I don't live close to a city with a VW mechanic I can pester with dumb questions so I read this forum a lot, so thanks already....[/url] |

My wild guess is that one outlet is needed for the brake sensor, surprisingly blanked on the picture you provide.
What brand TTS sells nowadays? Concerning brakes I am attached to ate brand. |

5 outlets....
1. left front
2. right front
3. rear
4. front brake light switch
5.rear brake light switch
In the pic above the brake light switches are not installed and are capped off by white plastic plugs just under the rear brake line and the front left brake line. |

Interesting but not really surprising that my setup is non standard.... this has been the case with other brakes bits, heater, wiper, engine - I have a K series engine in there, have looked at the engine id threads and its not even mentioned, someone told me this is an industrial version?? Anyway thanks guys for the reply's - much appreciated.
Perello - I'm not sure what brand this master is - box is long gone. Markings on it are..... 1 G 486 FTE |

Your engine is probably an AK. |

yeah, got any pics? You are not alone, and its my guess yours is an import from Bali. I just picked one up recently, the chassis number is 186 2.. .... E,
engine number is AF 92.... transaxle is AV 190.. X
The chassis ID plate says 'TIPO 181' and HECHO EN MEXICO and its factory right hand drive.
The engine tin is curved around the heads, so when the engine is out the hole is rounded on the sides, instead of straight. Bit hard to explain without a photo.
I guess the engine tin will be the hardest bit to find. |

Sounds like you need the fuel injection head tins. Actually fairly easy to find as they fit all the FI beetles.
And the 186 VIN makes it a 1976 |

FI beetle tin, good tip, thanks.
Also, I just realised Cwatts would have a left hand drive 181 if its German made. |

Your MC is standard for your model .There is just one outlet for the brake light . You just plug the other on your new MC .
I have a military 181 from 1970 and I would be pleased to answer to others questions ! |
