View original topic: How to install e-brake with a shortened frame

I'm restoring a fiberglass dune buggy that has been shortened 14 inches, I have the stock handle never installed. The tubes off the horns are about 4 inches long therfor the angle is off where it meets the handle, how do you modify the e-brake once the fram has been shortened.
Thanks

Maybe if you post some photos of what you've got? The e-brake shouldn't need modifying, it fits in the same way and place as stock. The cable outer tubes thru the frame and the cable inners should just be shortened by the same amount as the frame.

When shortening a pan I usually leave the tubes long ( couple inches) where they come out back half of tunnel and sort of bend then around in place to make alignment, then cut to length and bring pan halves together.... Have found that leaving a little window directly behind handle bracket allows alignment and welding up of tubes and then welding plate on window..... I never molest the actual handle or handle mounting bracket or change bracket location when doing a pan....

That being said, if pan is already welded together you will have to do what ever is necessary to get tube aligned into bracket (inside tunnel) and secured.... Might be advantages to open up a access at top of tunnel to manipulate the tubes( lengthen/shorten bend) to get the ends located correctly so cables meet handle at proper angles....

As mentioned above "pictures" of your situation would help.... It may be necessary to replace the tubes or attempt to splice them to get what ever you need to do done...

Thanks, after having another look I see they cut the tubes too short so it looks like extending the tubes with proper mounting is the way to go. Thanks for all your help

This graphic shows how/where e-brake tubes "connect up" with handle bracket...
