Are there any good websites for a hobbyist to buy new sheet, bar, etc. steel in reasonable quantities? I'm just trying to patch up an old bug and don't need an insane amount of metal but I've only seen small sheets of super thin stuff at my home depot and tractor supply.
(I'm thinking web and not physical stores because I don't think I can fit much in my my mini, Anyone with a pickup want to be my friend? ) |

Well discount steel (first result on Google) isn't exactly a household name. I've had trouble in the past going with random sellers that pop up in Google searches. |

| Call a local fab or machine shop and see where they get theirs.I bought a 20 foot stick of 1.5 X 3 mild steel tubing .087 wall for like $70 and a half sheet of 18 ga steel for $35 right before Christmas.Ask if they will sell you a drop.I am working on a 280zx that you cannot get floor pans for so I made my own patch panels and fabbed up new frame rail sections too. |

This place has some pretty good pricing especially if you can ship to a commercial address.

I agree. Local is the only way to go. Shipping metal is expensive and any local place can shear to manageable sizes. Sometimes they even have leftover odd size pieces you can use. |

X3.
I went to a metal recycling place to see if they had pieces of 18 ga. they could sell. The guy told me where I could find it - a metal fab shop.
A 30 x 30" pc. of 18 ga. sheet was $20. |
