Lets install 'em in the lot. :D

I can bring some tools and a floor jack.. easy.
Would be REALLY cool to have a before and after.

I'm game, how is that, a live tutorial on how to install front shocks...

"What could possibly go wrong?"

I haven't done KONIs.. but..

I'll bring some tools.. I'm gonna have a van full of parts for the tranny rebuild anyway. Whats a few more tools in the mix?

modelttouring Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:08 pm

I will be there with my 85 weekender 1.8t. Holger

j_dirge wrote: True.. but wouldn't the rear disks, in theory REDUCE front end dive? Since they ought to be doing a little more work than my stock drums?

Well, can't say one way or the other as there are so many factors at play, like the rotor size, piston size, pad COF, etc.

Although discs tend to need MORE pedal force to get them working. Remember when discs came out on cars? They also got a brake booster to go along with the discs, because they required more force.

Fairly certain I will make it...for a little while anyway. Nothing to contribute other than several newb-ish suspension questions. Unless of course someone wants to drive a very, very low slung carat with tired bushings and shocks.

I'll bring some coveralls. :D

Make sure you have the right nuts for the Koni, they use an M10x1 which could be different than the Bilsteins that are on it. Mine came with the right nuts, but Frank's didn't come with any...

I have a vested interest on this happening, so I will help if you guys need someone to fetch wrenches and such :)

The top nut on the end of the shock shaft. The Koni have a super fine 1mm thread pitch that is unusual.

My daughter has a game at 9:00, but I will be heading over to the gathering when the game is over.

I will have the latest rear spring prototype, but the engineers did not get the front back to me in time. So my the front springs on my syncro will be an intermediate prototype that is too low and a tad too stiff.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Syncroid, was that your Syncro at Art's shop a couple of weeks ago? My Westy was there at the same time getting a new radiator in...

I told Art I'll drop by in the morning, to pressure him into coming with his 84 :)

Yes it was... there for >week with the transaxle at Ron's for a rebuild. Art seemed enthusiastic when I last mentioned this GTG.

Are any low vanagon's coming to the meet?

madspaniard Fri Mar 23, 2012 10:53 am

ok, need to write my list of things to bring here or else I will forget:

* rear drums for Ryan
* Fanchers poptop insulation kit for Jim to check out
* front Konis
* and a bunch of nuts for everybody

Juan, if things go right, you might be driving back with the Bilsteins in a box. Don't forget the AC plenum.

Cool. If that happens, I probably just leave the Westy at Auto Point for installation/alignment and try to get a ride back to Emeryville with someone :)

Weather.

Scroll down for current rain satellite.

Hopefully the front is not as thick as last weekend's.

syncro.org Fri Mar 23, 2012 8:31 pm

It does not look like rain is avoidable unless the event is moved to Sunday. I will still come out in the rain. My daughter's game will go on rain or shine, so i will already be dressed for it. I will have some syncro de mayo stickers to give away, too.

Here's the text of the special warning:

PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WAS APPROACHING THE COAST OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ON FRIDAY EVENING. RAIN IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE NORTH BAY LATE ON FRIDAY NIGHT...AND PERHAPS IN COASTAL AREAS AS FAR SOUTH AS SAN MATEO COUNTY BY SUNRISE SATURDAY MORNING. RAIN WILL THEN PUSH SLOWLY SOUTH AND EAST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA AND MONTEREY BAY AREA ON SATU DAY AND SATURDAY EVENING. THERE ARE INDICATIONS THAT A BAND OF RAIN WILL STALL OVER THE EASTERN AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA...AS WELL AS THE MONTEREY BAY AREA...FROM MIDDAY SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. ALTHOUGH STEADY RAINS COULD PERSIST FOR SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE HOURS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE AREA ON SATURDAY AND SATURDAY EVENING...RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO BE MOSTLY LIGHT TO MODERATE IN INTENSITY. THE RAIN BAND WILL BEGIN TO MOVE OFF TO THE EAST ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND RAIN WILL TAPER OFF. SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE ON SUNDAY...BUT MOST OF THE RAIN THIS WEEKEND IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR ON SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. RAIN TOTALS OVER THE WEEKEND ARE FORECAST TO RANGE FROM 0.75 TO 1.5 INCHES AT LOWER ELEVATIONS AND FROM 1.0 TO 2.5 INCHES IN THE HILLS. GREATEST WEEKEND RAIN TOTALS ARE PROJECTED TO BE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF SANTA CRUZ...SANTA CLARA AND MONTEREY COUNTIES.

madspaniard Fri Mar 23, 2012 8:40 pm

Light to moderate rain sounds doable. It would be nice if somebody has one of those EZ Up canopies to bring, mine got destroyed, the leftovers can be found in some landfill in Baja.

Splash Fri Mar 23, 2012 8:50 pm

I'll have a canopy I will bring .........Looking forward to seeing everyone...My 87 is stock and I need to improve things...

juanb Fri Mar 23, 2012 9:22 pm

I'm in even if it rains a bit. Looking forward to seeing Jim and Enrique install those shocks in the rain ;)
