how to put it a 914 porsche engine into a type 1 1969 in up

Okay...post seems a little abbreviated...

It's like a bad German-English translation....

What im asking is what would it take to drop a 914 motor into a bug(69-up)

Bleyseng Fri Feb 17, 2012 1:32 pm

DTM fan conversion, different flywheel/clutch setup etc.
Shoptalkforums.com has tons of how to info

A 914 engine is the same as a VW Type 4 which is very popular with the German Look cars.

The main thing is converting it to a upright fan. Tuna, Jake Raby and others have it documented.

Its a bolt in. Buy the right parts and it installs just like a Type 1.

WHY,as much or more hp w/t-1,with less head-ache that t-4 !!!! and more speed goodies!!!

Jake Raby Sun Feb 19, 2012 7:24 am

Yeah, more low quality, junk speed goodies. There are no headaches with TIV power done right and applied correctly.

I fixed it for you. :D Applies to ALL engines.

Whatever. Who cares.

To the original poster:
If you look around online you will find that Jake has pretty much covered the "why" question (and the how to question to boot.)

I would encourage you to do it. Its a great conversion because there is a wealth of high quality parts and knowledge available. If you are on a budget you can fabricate all of the stuff yourself using Joe Cali's "Type 4 upright conversion manual." If you are looking for an easy bolt on solution and you don't mind spending a few bucks then Jake's DTM shroud is the way to go.
Probably one of the best places to start is http://www.tunacan.net/t4/

Once you get started and have some more specific questions then let us know.
