You drove it somewhere outside of Gawgia?

1. "I like your Karmann Ghia"

 damn people are stupid

Try this:

"I like how you put VW stuff all over that Corvair over there! It really looks like a VW! Oh, Gawd, that's funny!!!"

Actual quote from a female customer at my shop back in '04 who was picking up a BMW with "W. 04" bumper stickers all over it. :D

Cottage Grove, Or. is the gateway to the Appalachia of the West Coast. I don't even think it had much to do with her being a female.

Yes, now. But the OG Tramhaus in Or. was in the Grove as was the shop.

No, I just drove it to the police station for a vin verification... Like I am doing again today. Trying to figure out how to get them to put the right year with the car. A typo/ title snafu somewhere in the past 48 years apparently overrides any documentation from vw. But hey, vw only built the car, I'm sure they have no clue when they did so.

you're wanting the VIN to match the body or the pan?

Tuff240 Thu Feb 23, 2012 3:55 am

Nice looking N. I've always liked their uniqueness.

I've had to have the year changed on many titles but that was almost 20 years ago. So may not be as easy these days.

I would take several pieces of literature explaining the chassis numbers and how they break down into years to show them what year it really is. If your car is registered to the late model IRS pan/VIN's you might not be able to change it.

It was never easy and usually took a few trips to the DMV, but worth the work imo.

ddesh Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:22 am

No dave the title says its a 63,but the car is 64. That is what she is trying to change

VWGirl Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:59 am

The DMV here is pretty worthless... I'm pretty sick today, but determined to have it done today. I like things done the right way, not the bassackwards Georgia way... They think I invented the samba solely for this purpose, and would accept the vin info on here. I remember some Bentleys having vin info so I am about to check mine... They said they wouldn't accept documentation from vw, only a vin verification form from a ga officer... Backwards, but okay... Gonna see what I can do.

VWGirl Thu Feb 23, 2012 11:43 am

Day two... 5 hours, 4 local tag office people, 1 out of state tag office rep, 1 local tag office manager, 5 law enforcement from 3 cities and 2 counties... And my car is now registered as a 64. The title isn't corrected, but I don't need a title in Georgia.

Honestly, if I had dealt with the policeman and tag office lady today, yesterday... This would have been a quick and easy process. Oh well, it is done and over now!

krusher Thu Feb 23, 2012 12:04 pm

In the UK we have to register our cars on the chassis number, so on the pink slip in the uk that would be a 69.

same here....

Erik G Thu Feb 23, 2012 12:17 pm

Every notch and pre 65 type 3 I've owned have been registered as a year early. When they were brought to the US, it saved you from paying new car tax to say it was a year old...

They don't look at that here... I could always switch the pan back if I had to, but I'm enjoying this auto :)

Told you, literature and multiple visits. :P

I had the same literature this time as I did last time... it's just that this time the cop actually LISTENED to me... I'm more familiar with the cops in the other county cause that's where I work, and unfortunately this causes me to have to interact with the police way too frequently. I had a better feeling about going to them.

I just presented the facts... showed him the VIN, told him there was no date sticker on the car, but showed him the print out from here with the chassis numbers and that it would be an april 64 car. He liked the car and looked it over. Asked if it had been registered in GA, said no, he asked where I got it, so I told him, and I told him that AR had it listed as a 63... he didn't comment. when he handed me back the paper he didn't mention it.

Now... to figure out how to mount my 64 tag without drilling holes in it... and where to store my other tag I have to keep in the car cause it won't fit in the glovebox? Told you it GA is bassackwards. My car i registered to a NEW georgia tag... but I don't display that on the car, I just have to keep it IN the car with a piece of paper saying my other tag replaces this one... ummm yeah...
