I have a type iv engine I think that has a kennedy engineering clutch and fly wheel to adapt to a type 1 transmission. It needs rebuilt it had water in the cylinders. It also has a comp-fire distributorless ignition systems. And dual dellorto carbs. Is any of this stuff worth anything?? I want to either go water cooled or back to a type 1.

A 1700 will bolt up to a IRS tranny as is. Dad has 1700 in a 69 bus. If you want to go water of type 1, you should buy one or build one.

If you want a ton of torque for offroading, bigger gears, or monster tires without having to rev a type 1 to death. try the Type 4. You will be amazed.

This one isn't stock by no means. It has 103 mm cylinders. I am not sure of the stroke. I am thinking that it is 95 or 96 mm if I measured right.

Why wouldn't you want to bring that monster back to life?

How much do you want for it? I'm extremely interested

Definitly re-measure the stroke, the most I have ever seen a crank for a T4 is 86mm, and generaly people do not go over 80mm, just not worth all the clearing in the T4 case (not to say PA didn't put in a 86mm). I have had a couple T4, great engines, lots of torque like Bash52 said. Little pricer (which has been discussed more then once or twice) but great engines, no doubt. I recommend checking out http://www.tunacan.net/t4/ before you go into it blind (STF has a good T4 section also). Talks about how to match up to a T1 Tranny (very easy, not that special of a process), or stick a bus tranny in and take advantage of it! What case do you have (#s)? What size Dells? Pics are always helpfull. If you decide to go T4, defenitly spend some money on the heads (BIG valves will help - T4 need to breath, especially the exhaust) and get a new cam (stock ones are... well, not the best). If this is going in a open rear Baja, you can keep the original cooling configuration or convert to upright. Lots of options!

Give this a read if you haven't already.

T4's are a really tough engine but they can be expensive to rebuild, parts are becoming scarce, unless you can do it yourself.

Sorry, it will be 'less expensive' to rebuild if you can do it yourself. Parts may still be hard to find.

Got it. I thought you were suggesting manufacturing you're own un-obtanium parts.
