View original topic: Looking for information on early beetles (maybe a sticky?)

I thought there was a sticky but I can not find it.

I was given 2 beetles. Both have under 50k miles but they have been sitting since atleast the early 80s. THey have been in a nice barn. Not your typical falling down barn.

I think one is a 68 and the other is a 72. I may use them as parts for a Buggy but don't want to cut up something that could be worth money.

Is there any stickys showing more rare bugs that could be worth more money?

Can you post a few pictures?

There is no Sticky but in general any low mileage, all original car will be worth more than a similar exact year & model car.

Of course it depends on condition - rust, originality, etc.

Can someone tell me what a "sticky" is without getting too graphic??

Don't feel bad about cutting them up, you make mine worth more :D

Sticky = threads that are "stuck" to the top of the Forum thread listings so you can find them easily at the top.

They say Sticky: in front of them

Sweet. Thanks!

two fat chick bugs? sorry but not rare and not worth much even in execellent condition

EverettB Thu Feb 23, 2012 11:05 am

It's true they are not rare unless they are absolutely perfect and all original in every way.

They could be worth more than a "regular" 68 though. Easily.

Not worth much is a matter of opinion. I saw someone recently say their VW (not a Beetle) was worth $14K according to NADA so they were "rich". :)

Depending on their age, some VW's only had 5 digit odometers. So even though it shows 50,000miles on the clock, it may in fact be 150,000 or 250,00, or 350,000, or more.

This site IS the place for you to get more info on the cars you have. Post up a few pictures and you will get all sorts of information.

I'd say those vehicles have potential. If they have been preserved that long and on good condition, sell them to someone who will appreciate them intact and use the profits to buy something more appropriately used as a parts car.

Thanks for the information.

I know for a fact they have low mileage because my grandpa bought them brand new. I think the one is kind of rusty but the other one is in pretty nice shape.

Im going to get them to my house and see about getting them running first to see about selling them for decent cash if they clean up good.

I know the one is a super beetle. I think the one is actually a 78

I use a tow dolly to tow mine home. If you are Far away you might get 2 Beetles on a UHaul truck/trailer or just list the haul on www.uShip.com You will get lots of Bids and/or name your price.

They actually drove them into the barn and parked them.

Im only about 5 miles from his house and have accress to a trailer with winch. So Im hoping its not too bad to get them home.
