Yea like I said I have met people who swear by 135's and thats all cool and well....but when I switched to 155/60's it was like night and day...I can now take my hand off the steering wheel if I want to....with the 135's I was having to two hand it constantly.

I can say that my experience with this is only with old buses, not beetles. Wider front tires on a bus tend to grab road imperfections much more than narrow tires. I wonder if something in weight distribution or suspension geometry differences has an effect?

You may be right on that one....I mean being a driver-over-front suspension setup it may very well have something to do with the steering. Could be the almost vertical angle of the steering column on a type 2 also? On a type 1 unless you have a full tank of gas there is almost no weight on the front tires which would make them steer weird with a 2" contact patch.

Man I tell ya what im rolling a 6.5 inch beam on old ratty Empi-5s with a 155/60 smart car tire and I experience very little rubbing only unless Im turning at a hard core angle and that doesnt happen much. Of course the backs of my headlight buckets have been tubbed so that helps but no other real rubbing. ...and yes my bug is about 1.5 off the ground at its lowest point and 3 inchs at the lower part of the engine.
Now when I had 135's on it, yes it rubbed alot and all the time. Front tire is everything in this situation.

Thanks for the info...selling my 135s and ordering me some 155/60 :)

back to topic

Here's my daily scraper...

lowest static bug in kansas right now as far as I know. And I'm running a stock width beam!

I'm tucking wheels front and back

1 1/4" at the lowest point right now

Bearlakecustoms Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:38 am

not the lowest but prob the lowest that lives in a complex that has speed bumps... but she still rips up reflectors

Thanks for the respect Super...Its not for everyone, its rough, rugged and sometimes I feel downright crazy but to stand back at a show and watch people snap their necks in pure disbelief that I drove it to the show is worth all the reflector hits and pothole dodges in the world. Believe that....

Here's a more recent pic of my dirty girl MJ at a local church show. You can see she is about 2.5 inches off the ground at the front apron. So sexy....

This car is one of my all time best. With all the different wheels you have used over time, I think the sprints look the best.

My 55 back in 1998. Deep 6's all around with Kleber 135's up front. This was before the narrowed beam craze started. It was tougher getting a car to sit that low back in the day.

mixedup59 Tue Apr 24, 2012 10:59 am

My first car. The ol' 59. Pic from 1992. Slammed by Tony Stern of The Volks Shop. Lowest car award at Rose City Bug that summer. Would of loved me some dropped spindles back then
