heres some pics of the next build now my single cab is done.
engine will be stock 36hp with judson
stock split tranny
slammed
4" beam (dub beams)
wide 5 discs (for safety)
stock interior

an ratty as fuck!

goin to do the chassis nice, sort out the minor rust issues an have a nice inside with dynamat everywhere to cut down on sound. new seals throughout..

as found, took a couple of years to get it tho.

beautiful dash

found rear guards for it, kind of matches.

pans rooted, so off with its head

new sides goin to go in, thanks to Al an Steve at Das Resto Parts for stocking the bits i needed.

some accessories goin on it.
from a wrecked 56 bug, need new rivets for it, an yes i will drill the original rings.

flying bonnet emblem, cast from an og one, (thanks Bob) i made a few of those.

bonnet straps

3 spoke

ratty mangels, but thinkin ill run stockers. still undecided.

with rusty flying swastika logo hubcaps

57 36er. With the judson, some NOS bits goin on this thing as well.
theres another build thread about this engine only a couple of weeks build difference btween the car an engine.

thinkin outlaw style for this.

Unsure how to seal the body still, was thinkin matt clear coat, or the diamond clear satin finish,
http://www.eastwood.com/diamond-clear-satin-set.html
im not really sold on ankor wax or penetrol..

more work will get done 2moro, hopefully should have sides ready an on this week..

amazing what a hammer an chisel can do!

Monday
after fuckin round 2day, sun/surf/beer/lunch blah blah blah

got into it again.

trial fit the wolfsburg west halves, thick metal an good fit

drilled holes all way round.

then welded the shit out of it

needed a little tweaking after initial welding for the rear half, but overall a good fit an impressed with the quality. grind back the tops an get it ready for por15 all over it.

more to come soon....

Dasdubber Mon Mar 05, 2012 5:16 am

cuttin tunnel to fix cable tube

reattached rear plate thingy

rubber mat buttons

still some work to do on it but hopefully 2moro it will be finished, gettin blasted on thurs then por15 the shit out of it.

D-train Wed Mar 07, 2012 1:34 am

some more work 2day

both sides done finally

put on the pedal cluster to weld in the bottom lockin plate

trialed the rubber mats to make sure i got the buttons in the right spot

loaded up for sandblasting 2moro, lets see shaven do this in his dc....

chassis is 100mm too long to fit in the tray. oh well

beer an tools for headlights

early bosch glass in early bosch frames, had to drill holes for the hinges, prob should of saved the frames, but if i put them in the cupboard for a rainy day they will never be used.. purists will hate me now

Schwing Wed Mar 07, 2012 6:57 am

Great build, I am liking it already. Over here we really like the RHD, at least i do.

Where did you get your floor mat buttons? Cheapest I could find was at The Thing Shop for $3.83ea.

**EDIT** Just realized you have a May '57 36er. I also have a May '57 engine# 1859653. If I read your engine# correctly at 1874302, that means our engines are about a week apart! Sorry I think thats badass.

79,631 engines made in May
Thats roughly 2,568 engines a day (assuming weekends)
Your engine is roughly the 37,864th engine they made.
My engine is roughly the 23,205th engine they made.

Alright I'm done hi-jacking, sorry thats cool shit.

its so easy to get involved with the numbers game, i spent ages lookin for a 36er with the right numbers, have about 15 or so of them, but wasnt happy til i got the correct one...

no, i dont have a problem..

haha

D-train Thu Mar 08, 2012 6:27 pm

finally got out to stans an had a chat about the 36er, i already knew it had been rebuilt, but he was quite impressed with it an how goos of condition it was in, even said the bearings will be fine to run, but if ive gone this far, might as well change them all out.

used his gear puller to pull off cam/dizzy gear.

new bearing on

heat up gears to slip back on

all done, crank is good to go back in now..

was goin to do the rod bearings as well, but chose against it as they are still really good as well..

hot washed the case an heads now to clean them up a bit before reassembly.

D-train Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:37 pm

high flow pump bolted in

new rear main seal, shims an gasket installed

polished flywheel for a good fit

D-train Sun Mar 11, 2012 10:13 pm

some more work, wont be any updates for a couple of weeks now, that work gets in the road..

cleaned up the heads, pretty good nick too.

rebuild a fuel pump with bigger spring for judson.

used wolfsburg west rebuild kit for internals..

nos base for pump

inserted return line screw for fram system an bolted up distributor

crank pulley an tinware, enough room for the bigger oil pump as well which was a concern i had.

and judson bottom pulley on as well..

tried to take out the studs for exhaust from the heads but kept snapping them, so off to machine shop to get them out, i hate gettin other people to do work for me...
