Neat idea!
What happens when someone with a gun enters your home and you dial 911?
Your neighbors come over and...
Of course the alarm will probably send the person with a gun elsewhere if they're not deliberately after YOU... |

| ...I thought about that too, but feel like the alarm would scare them off... At least the smart ones will leave.... |

I would think so for your regular criminals, but in that special case that someone is maliciously after you, but then you're pretty much screwed unless you can protect yourself.
Cool product though! |

Neat idea, but i assume it won't work with cell phones, and while i'm sure there are a good number of people who still have land lines i honestly can't think of a single person that i know. Not my friends, parents nor grandparents. .....nope.... Can't think of anyone.
The compatibilty with vonage and magic jack is definately good though... |

Honestly, i think it would be more effective if it had a voice that repeated "help! emergency assistance needed!" or the like. If i Was inside my home and heard that noise coming from my neighbors house i would think it was an annoying car alarm going off for sure. (which people hear all the damn time and have grown use to ignoring."
If i heard "help! emergency!" i would be far more likely to go check it out! You could still have the ear piercing siren go off every 10 or 15 seconds to call attention, but a loud voice announcement would let everyome know that someone didn't hit the panic button on their neighbor's ford taurus key fob...
Just my $.02 |

Ahhhh I see the topic got moved to the right forum.
Good idea, simple yet somewhat effective. May work in a tight neighborhood community as a theft deterrent. Should be an easy sell for people that need gizmos.
 In addition, it would be nice to have a simple panic button without a 911 call added just to scare someone away as well.
Do you have pricing yet?
Walmart is the devil.
I do my best to avoid that place.
I dont text, dont participate in Facebook apps...sorry..cant vote. Maybe can spread the word for you though.
I hope you plan to donate to TheSamba for your free advertisement. |

I agree with wal-mart being the devil, but the devil sells a lot of $hit. I would emcourage you to explore other avenues as well such as:
http://www.kickstarter.com/
It allows you to gauge interest in a product while potentially generating money. A quick run down of how it works. Let's say you plan on charging $50 for this item in the store. You post it on kickstarter for lets say a $40 donation pledge. So people donate $40 at a time, but only if you hit a target number of pledges. let's say 1000 units. So once 1000 people pledge, all those people immediately are charged the $40 and you are given $40,000 to build 1000 of these things. This generates interest and revenue. You can set the prices and goals at whatever you want.
The idea is to allow people to get a discount by getting in on the ground floor, and allowing you to generate enough money to get started.
Usually there are different levels of pledges. I.e. If you donate $75 you also get an emergency flashlight, or you get 2 extra push button pendants (which i think is a necessary addition to your invention) or whatever. And then for a $100 pledge you get 2 rescue alarms plus the flashlight.... You get the idea. Build interest and incentivise sales. |

Are these.... American made, American assembled, American produced?
Ok good options so 3 pounds (###) is a panic (test) no call activation, 3 stars (***) turns the test off. Got it read the instructions. |

Have we learned nothing from the "help i've fallen and i can't get up commercials?" i really would encourage a pendant for elderly people. While it wouldn't be able to call first responders like Life Alert, at least it would notify neighbors if you were unable to reach a phone...
Though, not knowing fully how your system works, i'm not sure how difficult it would be to incorporate that into it. |

hmm, I've fallen and can't get up really has a corner on the market since it can call EMS remotely via the service.
I could add a remote, but I wish there was a very small cordless phone available for users to carry around and use in case of emergency, that would close the loop.
I am building these units by hand at my house in Florida from parts purchased from American suppliers but most suppliers get circuit components from everywhere. The injection molded case is from china as I couldn't find anyone local who I could afford.
So, It is Florida made with a shell case shipped in from China and circuit parts and blank board purchased from Mouser and Digikey who are both American suppliers. |

Of the 30 + folks in my extended family, we all have land lines, yes many have cell phones, but all have a home/land line number. |

| i have a future design idea for it that would influence me more into purchasing your device. maybe a small pin hole cam that starts recording as soon as the device goes off. people dont get very good descriptions when they are startled and or in panic mode. this photo or video could provide the police with real info on a crime and help catch the bad guy. |

| JonF, That seems pretty simple... I could solder in a CCD video circuit with a SD card slot so you can pull the memory and plug it into your laptop. |
