Hi
I have a '58 with split case transmission which is leaking a lot of oil. Hard to see where it is coming from at it is pretty dirty. I'll get it steam cleaned to I can get a better look, but any places they often leak that I should be looking at? The axle boots are good...
Thanks

After the cleaning, look at the axle retaining plates (they have 6 nuts, each). It could leak from the plates lower area....
With excessive torque applyed to the nuts, the plates bent...and will leak. If this is the case, it's easier to remove the gear box from the car, repair the plates, fit new paper gaskets applying a good silicone sealant and put them back with the proper torque.
Other places to look: the sealing surface at the nosecone; the drain plugs... |

Thanks for the help. I think the box hasn't ever been apart. Will get cleaned and see what I discover.
Thanks
