1973 thing with a fast idle problem . cam on left side of carb with notches for fast idle. engine seems to creep back up to fast idle with tap of gas pedal it will back down . is the adjustment for this on right side of carb. loosen screws and turn to move fast idle cam??
q2 who has the best shop manual for this car??

Incremented cam on DS(drivers side) of carb is attached to the choke heat element on PS of carb. Loosen three set screws on PS and rotate in whichever direction needed for adjustment.
The element inside heats up and expands as the engine temps increase. As the element expands, the choke is opened up(turned off).

Sounds like yours is adjusted the wrong way and is holding open too long.
Their is also an idle adjustment screw that is on the DS of the carb, pointing toward the front of the Thing. Most folks mistakenly adjust this to compensate for other bad tuning/maintenance adjustments. Make sure it's barely touching.

Anyone correct me if the info is wrong, it's been a while since I fiddled with a 34pict carb...

I think this is what gi joe is saying adjust the screw from the first picture so it just touches and adjust the big screw from the 2nd picture to adjust the idle adjust the choke with the 3 screws on the right side like he said

I have the Thingshop manual and it is good on specs and major overhaul procedures, but is lacking in some areas where the car is no longer new and others have "adjusted" stuff that the manual just says to leave alone, with no instruction on how to put it back to normal.
