I've been looking for the past few months for a solid 67 that I could have some fun with and eventually restore. I wanted one that wasn't rusted out, had most of the OG parts, and was in decent shape without breaking my budget.
I finally found what I was looking for on Wednesday and was the first person to call on the ad not long after it was posted. The problem was, the car was 5 hrs away and I would not have a day off from work until Saturday to go get it. I called the seller and asked if I could buy it sight unseen and he told me that he preferred to sell it to someone AFTER they looked at the car. Made sense, but I didn't want to miss out on the deal so I called and asked again. He stood firm with his decision and said that he had a couple of guys coming over to look at the car that afternoon and if it didnt sell, he would work something out.
Turns out, both guys liked the car but wanted to think about it....Lucky me! I called the seller for the 3rd time that day and once again told him I would buy it sight unseen at which time he told me, "you must really want this car" and "I will hold it for you until Saturday" (my first day off). I asked if he wanted a deposit and he said "Im a man of my word. If you say you are coming on Saturday, then I will hold it for you until then".
At this point, I am excited and cant wait for it to be Saturday. In the meantime, I told a couple of friends about the car and they told me "screw Saturday! We will go get the car for you on Friday!" W00T !!! Even better! I called the seller and told him that I would send 2 friends to pick up the car for me a day sooner and he said that would be fine.
My friends left at 6am and rolled up his driveway at 11am. I immediately started getting text messages of the car from every angle. I told them that the deal was good enough that I didn't need any pictures....just pay the man and get it over to my house!
Here are a few pics of the car.....
And on the trailer on the way home....

Along the way, I get a text from them with the subject line "We got a problem"
Problem? What could have happened?
Then I get a 2nd text with this picture....
Haha, very funny....thank god I got a strong ticker. :) |

If not for the front fender being a diff color I would have a heart attack, again.
Whew but I still feel for the soul that was in the car. |

Spent the whole day Saturday pressure washing the entire exterior of the car. It had been sitting for 3 years and showed. The plan is to replace the fenders and repaint the car the original color but for now since I cant stand having the car in 4 different colors, I wet sanded it, removed the trim, taped up the windows and primered the exterior. I'm not a big fan of primered cars but it looks better so it will do until its ready for paint.
My friends came over and we ended up going thru the whole car. Gas tank came out and was drained and flushed. Fuel lines replaced along with a new filter. Engine and trans also drained and flushed. Carb rebuilt, cap, rotor, points all freshened up and plugs replaced. Poured some new gas in the tank, primed the line and it fired right up and purrs like a pissed off kitten. 8) |

First where is PWM or what ever that is you live.
Second the stock air cleaner is superior to any other air cleaner you can install on the VW engine.
Thirdthe pix of the wreck is a super notice the front spring in the pix.
A 67 kept stock will have a much broader resale market. |

1 - PNW = Pacific Northwest which for me is 30 minutes north of Seattle, WA.
2 - Stock air cleaner is being stripped and powder coated.
3 - Yeah, the wreck was meant as a prank or joke and not really my car.
4 - Yes, I am aware of the fact that a 67 is probably worth more if left stock. I plan to have fun with this one for awhile and eventually restore it back to its original glory. BTW, this is my 2nd '67. The first one I owned was back in 1976.... 8) |

For now, seal off those carb pre-heat holes in your rear breast plate tin (where the original warm air hoses passed through for your original oil bath). If you don't your cooling fan will draw hot air into the engine compartment. Also make sure your crankcase breathes or you will get oil blow-by, like behind the rear pulley. Take that cap off the filler neck and and put you on one of those small filters similar to you new carb air filter, or at least hook a hose back up to it and vent it somewhere. Make sure your '67 has the two pre-heat pipes installed when you put your oil bath back on, they may already be in place if your lucky.
Nice '67!!!! |

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will definately be sure to do the few things mentioned.
The car is in great shape with solid pans and heater channels. I was pleasently surprised with the lack of rust on this car. It does have 2 fenders that are aftermarket on the left side and yes, the lights and horn grille holes are mismatched with the right side. The plan is to find a new set of fenders to be painted with the car.
The stock engine and transaxle are coming out and will be freshened up, then stored. I am building a 2017 that will be mated to a Rancho transaxle so I can have some fun with this car before I totally restore it. The stock wheels will be stripped then powdercoated and wrapped with the proper sized tires as well.
Definately going to be a long term project with the goal to make it look as close to original as possible. 8) |

| I saw that listed for sale in Pasco. You only paid 1,000$ for it?!! What a steal. Looks like you're gettin' right to work on a great resto. Keep the progress pictures coming! |

Yeah, screamin deal for sure. Why do you think I was trying so hard to buy it sight unseen? 8)
Lucky for me the seller could tell I wasn't a flake and offered to hold it for me until we could get someone to Pasco to pick it up. |

Time for an update....
Decided it was time to do some body work on the car and get the correct fenders. Here it is ready for paint.
Should have it back on Tuesday at which time it will get all new rubbers along with some interior work. |

I'm always nervous clicking on these threads, because they usually have a nice restorable car, with a poster with plans such as chrome tins, and one piece windows, and all this other crap, that will just ruin the car. I'm no purist, I just believe in "tasteful" mods. Anyways, I'm always glad to see people doing good things with there cars.
Also is that a narrowed beam I see? |

The plan for the car is to do a complete resto with a few "tasteful" mods that can be easily reversed such as the narrowed beam you see. Once Im done having some fun with the car, it will go back to stock using as much of the original parts as possible.
List of tasteful mods.... 8)
- 4 inch beam (stock beam rebuilt and stored)
- front disc brakes (stock spindle and brakes rebuilt and stored)
- 1776 with dual 40's (stock engine will be rebuilt and stored with correct air cleaner, generator, etc...)
- built transaxle (stock transaxle will be rebuilt and stored)
- Silver Raiders (stock wheels will be stripped and refinished to original)
- Euro bumpers (while I am restoring the originals)
All the original window glass have been polished to get out most of the scratches and will be reused including the front vent windows and pop-out rears. |
