What a ridiculous project
First time vw owner and my food truck is FINALLY coming into shape
Got the roof back on and counter top functional

lots left to do:

1. Glowing LED counter where it flips down
2. Diamond tuft vinyl wrap door panels and inside roof over the white
3. install appliances {BBQ, Sandwich table}
4. Hippie 70's styled FULL vinyl wrap
5. Install plumbing
6. Install roll out awning

but for the most part its coming along…the next 10 days it will become what its supposed to be, man o man i under estimated this project!!!! Still love it and it will be a huge money maker for me for sure

That, my friend, is a beautiful bus....I love working buses!

my59 Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:54 pm

Looks very nice- but whats on the menu??

bcbay Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:56 pm

all organic hand made burgers
we call it
"The Burger Bus"

I pulled the engine so we could park it on city sidewalk in my downtown strip, tow it with a tow dolly…otherwise i would have to be out of downtown and pump a meter…no thanks!

Thanks, i've never tackled a project this large and now its all the little things left to do, kind of annoying but at least i dont have to paint it now! yay for vinyl wraps!

Where's the structural support for the openings?

bcbay Tue Mar 20, 2012 10:14 pm

we welded in a bunch of support steel inside and joined up the rood so everything is solid…its only being towed 3km a day, the van is solid!

chabanais Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:52 pm

Good luck with your venture.

Before someone else says it... are those L/T tires? :-)

danfromsyr Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:23 am

you should be able to rig a towbar setup much less buly in downtown settings than a Dolly..

also when I was plotting to make a vending bus, I'd thought to add an electric drive to one rear axle (clutched to allow freewheeling while towing) so that it wouldn't need to be pushed (maybe a curb or sunk drain grate gets you hung up)

nice job, and I'd still love to make a Vending bus.. maybe when I'm old retired and have more time. :x

flex71 Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:24 am

looking interesting, do you have any info on the vinyl wrap? who's doing it? how much, will the wrap cover the whole bus??? what about he prep under the wrap?

fastwagens Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:40 am

That's too cool. I envy you on this venture.

danfromsyr Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:27 am

I'd also recommend that when you contract the vinly wrap to have it burned to CD or flashdrive in event you need to repair/replace it.
should add nothing but reassurance to the cost of the job. some of those files can be quite large so they don't always retain them after they print/install the vinyl.

HOLD ON A SECOND!!!!!!

When you say you are from Vancouver, and your username is bcbay. Does...does this mean....ok breathe here...
Does this mean you're opening a burger vw bus food truck in Vancouver, BC Canada?!!

Kursive Wed Mar 21, 2012 2:41 pm

Just another reason to cross the northern border.. but.. veggie-burgers??

RatCamper Wed Mar 21, 2012 6:05 pm

ooh, veggie burgers. I'll be waiting with money in hand  Might take a while for you to get it out my way though. Thoughts have crossed my mind of turning my POS into a POS (It's a joke. i swear) such as a portable cafe or such, but I'd rather have another to do it with. It'd be a lot more conservative because of engineering requirements unfortunately. I do love that design. it's amazing.

Using it essentially as a trailer makes sense. I read back through because I was kind of confused at the sink location.

Thankyou for planning to serve something good from one of those setups by the way. Good food with ambience.

Haven't said this in a LONG time...

That's bitchin'! :P Bound to get lots of attention. 8)

to answer your question:

YES!!! The Burger Bus will be right downtown on Granville St…600 block granville skytrain station..OH YEA!

All Certified Organic handmade original recipes Burgers serving right out of the bus…funk music blasting all day!!

I was wondering about those tow bars if somebody could tell me…how far do the stick out in the front when they are on?? I want the slammed look so I removed the torsions upfront and slid in some round bar…i would have to install a narrowed beam up front…because i wasnt planning on hauling it with the front tires on the ground but plans can change!!

WE HAVE HANDMADE VEGGIE BURGERS!! OH YEA!

We should have this thing working within 2 weeks!! Come on down and I'll buy you lunch! Offer is open to all Samba members!

bcbay Wed Mar 21, 2012 8:34 pm

whoops forgot to answer some questions:

1. The vinyl wrap is done by my friend who owns a vinyl company, which is great…normally they cost about 3Grand with design layout etc.

As long as ive got all the primer wetsanded and smooth it's good to go.

2. The Tires were from the PO I have no idea what the are or where they came from…im going old school with VW hubcaps and beauty rings

3. The tow dolly kind of scares me a tow bar would be great, but if ANYBODY can answer my questions above on them that would be awesome!!

4. The hippie wrap is going to have peace signs, rainbow, flowers, all old school keeping with the time of the vw and keep it like it's always referred to as…a hippy bus! but done really cleanly and naturally

Zelten Wed Mar 21, 2012 8:49 pm

Let us know when you open for business and I'll drive my bus up there to eat a burger! Cool project!

bcbay Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:24 pm
