I wanted to see what opinions might be out there. I found a 411 sedan that is in pretty good shape. Has some rust spots on body, roof and hood, and some minor rot at bottom of front fenders - both are rusted through and floppy at the front bottom. The rest of the car is very solid. No floor rot, solid under seats.

Bumpers great shape, never been hit that I can find.

It starts, but will not idle. (Old gas and needs carb redo and tune up. Its an automatic. Tries to move when in gear but engine keeps stalling because of old gas. Only starts in neutral, but shifts into gear with ease.

Brake line must be blown because theres no pressure.

Sorry, no pics, but it is very solid and all doors close easily and with perfect alignment.

The guy is asking 400.00. I'm thinking I should be able to resell it on here for over 1000.00. WAAAYYY too good shape to part out - this could be some kids "first car" - actually it's better than that.

I know this isn't a lot to go on, but does this sound like it's worth buying to resell? I'm not really familiar with 411/412 so I can use some help. Opinions? Thoughts?

Same color/model as the one at this link: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1032243 except it's a 73 and the body has spotty surface rust here and there.

It also comes with service records, owners manual and a chilton manual.

There is no such thing as buying to resell for profit with these cars. Buy it to keep it from the crusher, or to keep because you like it.

Like all ACVWs I respect and admire them, but it's not a vehicle I would really "collect". It's not in danger of going to the crusher so I don't have to save it from a terrible fate.

As far as reselling it, I'm not looking to simply profit from it, but rather put anything I made from selling it directly back into my 65 single cab project I have going on right now. That or offer it in trade if possible.

I hear what you're saying as far as not being one of those kind of vehicles you try to resell for a profit. I guess the market just isn't there. It's more a labor of love kind of thing?

Well, I do hate to see it sitting there doing nothing too. Hmmmmm... really on the fence with what to do with this one.

You should only get it because you want it since the crusher is not in the picture. You may find a buyer but it may take a few years.

What you will have to pour into it $$$-wise to make it a $1000 flip, will cost more than $1000.

Yep, I think I'll have to pass on this one. If anyone is interested in it, I'll be happy to tell you where it's at. (Since I seem to have the type 4 crowd commenting.)

From the details you note...I will tel you that there is a lot more rust than you know about...and a lot more damage. It will as noted take more than a $1000 to make it flippable. Ray
