So I'm trying to mount the hood on my clamdigger and I can't figure out how to mount hinges underneath so it can open forward. Does anyone have any ideas or pictures of theirs.

Thanks

Rob

Link fixed.

You would have to use a hinge designed for that purpose. The one you have is made to be top mounted. You may find one at a marine or RV supply store. You may also be able to modify regular auto trunk hinges.

A regular car hood needs to be hinged because its so big and heavy. However on a buggy the center of the hood panel is small and light and its just as easy to open by making it removable with camlock fasteners. Adding hinges would be unnecessary complexity. It would also be more prone to rattle/squeak, etc.

This way has the same advantages but provides a more rigid structure and is a lot simpler.

The main reason i want to hinge it, is that is where the gas tank fill is so the last thing I want to do is scratch new paint because I had to take the hood off and then find a place to set it while I fill up. I have thought about using the hinges for gas doors on cars. But i'm just trying to see if anyone has done this or has pictures of it.

Why do you want the whole hood to open instead of just putting a filler door in it, something like Dale M did?

If you want the access to the filler as well as the wiring, rear of the dash and tank removal, I'd put a filler door in a removable panel.
