here they are,

1. whats the biggest engine that can go into a 71 super w/o an extension?
2. whats a few cheap bolt on performance parts that wont decrease reliability?

Never heard of an extension in a beetle.
Simple small hp gains are: an extractor with a high flow muffler, dual carbs,or at least a rejetted solex ,and a mechanical advance set at 30 deg to 32 deg btdc @ 2500 rpm's........

when i say an extension i mean putting the box over where the engine lid used to go. like on some drag beetles
