My Dune Buggy built by a shop near me was jumping out of 3rd gear. Took it back for adjustment & while now staying in 3rd is jumping out of 4th.

Quick answer please. Is this an adjustment as the builder states or will the gear box have to be rebuilt?

Sounds like an adjustment problem to me. You need to modify your shift linkage rod so that you can make fine/accurate adjustments instead of moving the shift lever around on its mount.

You would need one of these depending on your shift coupling type. The shift rod has to be removed from the tunnel to install it

If it pops out of gear within a few seconds it's probably an adjustment problem. If you can drive for several minutes then it pops out of gear it needs to be rebuilt.

Just to remind everybody out there you need to change your gear oil every 5 years or 30,000 miles.

That means I have to change my oil every year then!

Do this 30K still hold true for Synthetics?

Heck , You might even have to do it while on the road :!:

I don't know what the mechanic found but they changed the gearbox case & replaced some parts inside. I think there could have been a crack in the case.

Repaired under warranty.

Sounds to me like the shift hub was worn. I had the same problem on the box i was building to take to Bonneville. Ususally if it shifts fine and stays in gear in 3 gears it's an internal problem. If it jumps out of 1/3 or 2/4 then it will be an external shift linkage problem
