Been looking forward to the Spring E town swap meet all winter...but I saw this last night and now I'm bitter !! ](*,)
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=483818
Wish Campbelltown was still a saturday show and I could hit both ( seeing how I live right in the middle of the two )
A dropped valve couldn't keep me from an Englishtown swap meet :D but 2 shows the same day will no doubt split the air cooled crowd...and that sucks
I hope to be rollin in by the opening of the gate ~
And man do I have a load of stuff to unload...

By the looks of it, this new Campbelltown show may be primarily a watercooled show [all their advertising feature watercooled cars] and considering this is a new show, chances are the swap will be off. If you are looking for parts, the swap at Englishtown is usually pretty good.

Oh yea, one other thing. Stop by the CJVWS club tent and pick up your FREE 2012 Event Magnet! Stick it to your fridge or tool box so you can be on top of all the local events.
If you can't make it to the show to pick up a magnet, go to our club website, click on the events page and at the bottom of the page you'll find a link where you can download a nice 8.5x11 pdf copy.
See you at the show.

That's interesting...maybe this year Spring E Town will actually be more aircooled then watercooled since some of the blue masking-tape crowd will be headed out to horse and buggy country.

Yea it is 8)
I've been going to the Spring Show & Go since the very first one.
I always manage to find some good scores there.
I usually seem to sell quite a bit of parts I have no use for too ( which is what I really should be doing instead of dragging more home )
LOL
Love the show schedule magnet idea...
I want one ! |

| Hey, if someone has oval parts to sell let me know. I have a 57 and would love to lighten my shopping list. I'll be there with our new club Orange County Air-cooled. Thanks, can't wait to go |

| Will do. I've been waiting for a local club to pop up but after a few years I figured I'd better do it myself. We started about six months ago and are hovering around twenty members. Thirty if you include the bums that never show up! |

Yes, but the Campbelltown show that is on the 15th, is not "the Campbelltown show". This is a new event at the old location. Volksfest is now at a new location and the following weekend. So it's all good still. |

| I'll be there, but you know what kills most of these shows? The cost to get in and a lot of us have no tolerance for what the watercooleds bring to the show (noise, attitude etc) maplegrove got killed and that was an awesome show but the last time I went they wanted an astronomical price to get in......I paid it anyway because I had just driven 2 hours to get there and the show absolutely sucked. I miss when englishtown had seperate air and water shows. I'm going to be honest and say that what used to be a show to look forward to has become a show to just go to just because its the first show of the season and I need to get out of the cave from hibernation, its just that englishtown has no longer become a priority show for me and I'm sure a lot of people feel that way. I'm actually surprised it hasnt died as well. I hear that the fall show last year was great but after what I felt was a failure and disappointment spring show because of all the watercooleds and the entry fee I didnt bother going to the fall show. I know that things can be changed to bring it back to what it was and hopefully it can change and be great again. |

Hey Case, would you happen to have or know someone who is parting out a late bus? A friend of mine just got one and is looking for an engine bar (I don't know what that is but he mentioned it the other day). |

I doubt watercooleds ruined Super Jam aka Maple Grove. Perhaps changing promoters & the show moving, & than not existing for two years killed Super Jam @ Maple Grove. Now under a new promoter, Gene Ulrich & the show called June Bug Classic, the show has been resumed and has been gaining momentum to be what it was in the past. Last year was the biggest turnout yet. Gene has fought for the show goers about the price & had it lowered.
What wrecks shows & the scene is this attitude of us vs. them. Seems to be old man syndrome, "these young whipper-snappers and their low, loud cars with their hot skinny girls.... they think they are special". Right, because the old aircooled guys never thought that, don't think that, runnin big motors, laying their cars out, rollin' big wheels, goosing the throttle at the red lights & gates... Maybe the old men are mad because the old lady hates cars, car shows & needs to be introduced to Jenny Craig. :D

The track is the reason for the high prices. If there isn't a big turnout of attendees, cars, etc. the price will either go up or the show will die. So thank those guys in watercooled for helping to increase the attendance at shows.
For all of the watercooled haters... without the watercooleds we would see that the fall show numbers become tiny & a VW show may not exist at ETown at this point. As a numbers based statement made about ETown from the fall....
jhicken wrote: The air-cooled make up for about 20% of the show, but we *(aircooled)* make up 70% of the swap.
So ETown is a big aircooled show :?: |

E-Town usually brings in about 125 aircooled cars, but the watercooled crowd brings in about 600+ cars. We have made great strides at limiting the loud music in the show, and organized the layout so the airicooled section is separate and the swap is more centrally located [not spread out]. Personally I got no issue with the skinny girls and as for the prices, we are working with the track on this. I'm meeting with the track on Wednesday in hopes of pulling some numbers and compare what attendance has been over the last few shows and what it was before the price jump. We were successful in negotiating a flat rate for swap space [$35 for a 20x20 space] in the past so I hope that we will have a similar success at the door. It may not happen at the spring show, but hopefully it'll happen in the fall. We'll see.

Believe me I'm no water cooled hater......in fact I'm currently on the lookout for an early MK1, BUT (and it can be a broad finger I'm pointing) if you go to etown, the new campbelltown at ren fair last year etc shows what do you hear???? Watercooleds thumping their crap music louder than the next and running their motors off the limiter in the show area and doing burnouts out of the venue gate ! ( and blue tape WTF !!!???) Its annoying and it ruins the show and its the look at me I'm more important than you attitude that shits all over a great show. Honestly you almost never see that with the aircooleds. If that shit could be tamed by the promotors ( stop it or your booted) than I could care less. Its the "ricer" mentality that aircooled people dont seem to have no matter what age.
Also, I never said watercooleds killed maplegrove. Price, the promotors etc killed that show. |
