hey guys, need some help figuring out what on the roof of my 53 kombi.
i stripped the barndoor roof today and found something interesting.
The bus had 6 coats of paint, dove blue, yellow, orange, lime green, dark green, and sweat pant grey. But heres where it gets interesting, about 12 inches wide down the center of the roof it only has been painted once over the blue with the grey, and has sort of an arrow shape at the front and rear of the roof. Now at first I was thinking a racing stripe, but 4 resprays and still keeping a racing stripe doesnt add up? also, there are screws holes, evenly spaced just inboard of the stripe area, every foot, about 1/8 inch holes. it flares out at the front about 8 inches before the gutter, and the same in the rear, so It definatley had something mounted on the roof running the full distance. the screw size and spacing could only make it something for show, not a ladder rack or anything beefy , so im thinking a sign, also large hole in the rear inside that sign area, maybe for wiring? and three brazed up holes in a row at a 45 degree angle to the center on both sides of the stripe area over the driver, like maybe lights that pointed at the sign if there was one?? seen anything like that before on a barndoor?? heres some pics, I tried to outline the area with a sharpie so you can see the shape. also, it has two giant half inch holes on the driver b-pillar behind the semaphores, to me seems like it may have had a "stop" sign on the side like an ice cream truck or school bus..? I must find out what was up there!!! the bus was originally from LA area, and found garden grove where it sat since the early 80's.

You may want to get Ace & Gary to help you out. They seem to stumble over these situations quite often :D

| Dont know what it was but it ruined the bus. So you should definitely ship it to me right away so you wont have to fuss with it anymore. :wink: |
