Tommy (dropgatelefty) got to help get her into the hoops at Robert Skinner's when we were there working on Velvet. I made the video. :) The undercarriage is completely wasted, so it was a bit of a challenge.

dsimas62, nice jack thats called a RakJak right? I want one but not willing to pay $300. Nice video, sad chassis rail rot

I met the last owner of this bus for the first time when I took this picture. I didn't know he sold it.

It's good to see that it will be back on the road again. I have more pics if the owner would like them.

Those hoops are great for working under a bus. Just sold my set,\ as I don't plan to do another bus. Ever!

Love the patina on this bus. Not even going to ask if going to save it. I know what my asnswer would be. 8)

I will miss my bus so much I wish I had the means and time to do what Robert is doing. I feel like I got in over my head with this thing, I put alot of my own time and money into it but at least it is getting saved.

No way this bus is getting painted. Just rust repair and structural integrity/running gear work...

Confirmed. Really, really appreciate Robert's appreciation for original paint and for letting most VWs continue telling the story of where they've been. They'll be some color matching where some of the outer skin required repair, but the bus's dignity and paint will be kept about 98% intact. Goatman may have had to turn the reins over to a more tooled-up welder, but hats-off to him for rescuing this bus, bringing it back to life and ensuring it went to someone who's respects toward originality run just as high. Great bus.

Cool video, thanks for sharing. 8)

So did you drive up to Sunny SoDak to pic it up? That kind of looks like Justin's place where you are pulling it out.

a friend of mine worked out a deal for this bus and 2 others in northe dakota, i helped fund the transport to salt lake city, in return, i got the ice bus, as you can see its no job for an amateur, i got the title all sorted out and then sold the bus to adam..

I just got off the phone with Justin, he picked it up from Rapid Ice Company where it sat for years. They bought it back from a company in New York where it was last registered. It was originally a Rapid City bus for the Rapid ICE Co. Justin swapped it to your buddy in Utah, who brought him something in return for 2 others. It's real cool to see it being reserected! I'm sure after hearing about this thread Justin will watch it.

I drove from Sacramento to Salt Lake City in one day to get the bus. While I was in the process of bringing it home to California I broke my drive shaft and had to be towed to the shop you see my truck sitting at. I then proceeded to drive home and on the way back I broke my transfer case and transmission. I went thru hell to get it back here. Just to not be able to finish it and turn it over to Robert but it was sor the best. I was stuck in the water with what I could do.

After laying hands on this bus, I truly wish I had the means to acquire it from Robert. What a great bus!!

DropgateLefty Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:56 pm

I can't freaking get this bus out of my head- I must figure out a way to park it next to my dropgate truck. Two '59 commercials- how epic would that be? After witnessing the amount of love this bus needs- I really would like to become the custodian of this tired old rig and see that she gets it.

Somebody talk me out of it before I sell a kidney on the black market...

Kidney? You don't need no stinkin' kidney! Go for it!

Talk you out of it? HA, HA, HA, HA!! Stay away from me then, I'll be the one driving you over the the bank to make a withdrawal and escort you to Skinner's.

Calling anyone who may have any info on what these buses looked like when in service- I am interested in any info as to how the cargo area was set up/any equipment carried- tools and the like.

Any old pics or brochures would be AWESOME.

Thanks!

I would love to have some additional photo's of the ICE BUS. If you could email them to me, I'd be very appreciative. Thank you DubStyle!!
