Newb here chiming in to say hello and i am trolling through the threads like a good newbie before i post questions and such.

Got the car from AZ, third owner. originally from Ca then went to AZ and now its in WV. Its pretty cherry and works well.

I have managed to build a small to do list and the first was heat.
So I fixed all the heat and to tell you the truth, not really sure what all the fuss is about, it works fine. I just had to go through the simplistic mechanical thingamabobs and figured it out. The car has heat to spare!!!

Timing "i believe" was off. So were the points. Apparently somone thought .007 or there abouts was good nuff but i gapped them to .016. I also have to learn some more about the various timing settings but to this point i am already seeing improved gas mileage.

leaning up and neeling into the trunk didnt help my pass wire harness, apparently i put a wire on its tail end and smoke checked a whole pass headlamp harness to which i had to fab up a replacement. I plan to rewire everything more neatly with insulated connectors once i get my head around the connections and such.

overall im pretty satisfied with the car and its coming a long well.

now to move on to my first question.............

has anyone solved the window crank issue yet were the strip out easy.
I noticed on a site that they call out a 69 metal window crank was better than the cheap ones that showed up in 70+.

If not, i am making this my next priority to either improve the part or find the best / correct / better type.

thanks everyone in advance

scott

There's a fairly big VW club down your way. Wagenfolks. They have a pretty big thread in the shows clubs and events forum. I'm sure they can help you.

I've just finished the major section of a major tune up. Check the valve adjustment! I found out my lifers were about glued to the valves. All I can figure is that they were properly set for clearance, but maybe the nuts got tightened without a screwdriver to keep the other in place. Mine had some newer studs that didn't match anything in Bentley, so i set all of them to the default .006“.

As for points, I discovered once again I don't like them, so its off to Indy and Buggy Works for a Compufire in the morning. Good thing I have an 009 from the Fatherland!

I roam the upper Ohio and the coalfields a lot, so maybe I'll see you :D
