Does anyone know where I can find a new replacement for my steering wheel bearings (78 vert)? My wheel suddenly developed some play. I've been told that the part is a circular plastic casing that holds bearings, and that it's a hard part to come by these days.

Thanks for the help,

John

Pull it apart and make sure what you need and then ask for part by part number. The sleeve will often slip out of place and no new parts are needed. See -> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/0.steering_column.htm

RMM www.motorworks.com *might* have it (they listed it at one time).
On that late model Super I do believe it's the same as the Rabbit (Golf I).

I was wondering what you mean by [play]. If you grab the steering wheel with both hands can you move it from side to side or up and down? Or is it when you turn the front tires to the right or left? The first may be in the bushings or bearings the second could be in steering box or front end. Just thinking....
