Hey guys i am currently looking to drop a 2180 Gex engine in my 1971 Squareback with a new high performance tranny and exhaust just trying to find out if there is anything i should upgrade with it

I suggest you do some research on GEX. Hopefully you can return it and get your money back.

Wow. Nothing like a bigger grenade!

WOW, just WOW. I thought GEX couldn't build a decent stock engine that would live for more than 10,000 miles, and here they're building 2180's? I've always been told to avoid them like the plague.

As far upgrading it, may I suggest getting it from someone else besides GEX.

I can't think of anything else although you may want to make sure your brakes work well to go with the high-performance parts.

just about any other builder - check the Feedback forum for GEX...

Check DRD or Chico.

And do a bunch of homework.
There's a LOT to building an aircooled VW for serious performance.

Search "Wheel Hop" in this forum.
Or "Traction Bar" in the HP forum.

Yes, no on the GEX engines....since they left CA, umpteen years ago, they suck azz!
I bought a 2180 stroker LB out of TX and it is blueprinted and stamped. I called the company and they told me what they put into it. Now that is a good builder.

paradise motor sports aka VW Paradise builds good stuff! As to the rest of the car... I have a 2110 in my notchback with stock disk brakes and they do fine.

I have a 2332 in my other notchback with a stock transmission and it is just fine as long as you preload the clutch before a burn out 8)
