| Awesome looking volksrod - will there be a fire breathing 2+ liter motor in this car some time down the road? It sure has the look and the stance. |

Did a couple more hours of assembly. bit more carpet, back glass, speaker tray and speakers. The tray is fastened in place. stereo sounds great but hard to appreciate without side glass and the engine running in my shop.

Very cool! I'm not a purist at all but I do like 'em stock bodied so it's not for me but it's very nicely done and not in the chopped up rat-rod style that most of 'em are. Great job!
vw_hank is right, that motor may run hot because the vents were there for a reason. I know you've already got it painted, but you could open up the indents in the deck lid and put scoops over 'em to direct some more air in there....just a thought.
I am a picky sonfagun about details tho' and your right exhaust looks a little high. :(
Keep it up and give us MORE PICS!!
:D

dubllyou, You are correct the right side pipe does not have the same oreintation ( thanks Empi) eventually I will modify them to correct it and have them jet hot coated.
I disagree that it will run hotter without hood vents. I have no sheetmetal under or around the engine like a baja or a buggy, I effectively reduced the overall weight of the car by not having fenders, aprons, bumpers or stock exhaust (I estimate 350lbs) and I am using all factory tin except for the sleds. plus i dont have all the heater boxes and stock stove pipe muffler which hold the heat around the engine.

Real nice looking car and the paint scheme is real unique - I love it. And on the engine temp. The one thing you have that a buggy or baja doesnt is a deck lid. You should be OK though - the dual canons wont be sending all that heat into the engine compartment, but I would do 2 things when you are first driving it. Check your oil temp and measure the temp near the fuel pump while extended idling. Whats great for that is a barbeque thermometer with a remote probe - If you get the right one (long enough probe), its also great for measuring the oil temp down the dipstick hole.
Reason I am suggesting this, is that with my VW woodie, I actually had vapor lock issues and added a couple electric fans - completely different set up - but something to check into. Cant remember for sure how hot it had to get, but for some reason I am thinking the magic number at the fuel pump was 140 F. |

| Yea, you technically removed 350 LBS. Then look at the tires you put on it ;) you probably added that back in rims and tires ;) |

They look aluminum, so they are probably lighter than stock. |

Wheels, tires as well as brake components are unsprung weight, the car does not know or care as to how heavy unsprung weight is.
The bigger rear tires do offer more rolling resistance but that is neglegable, and it may actually make the rear drums do some of the stopping seeing as the front are to be 135-15 smart car tires.
Thanks for the input. |

I dont even know were to start with that??
I well say I love the car!!!! It looks bad ass  and the craftsmanship is top notch!!
But I dont think you understand how A VW engine cools, and gits rid of heat... your car is nothing like A Baja,, what you have dun is closed up the intake side and opened up the exhaust side of the cooling system, and scents you dont have the lower tin work the intake side is going to pull hot air from under the car(the exhaust side) and recirculate it into the fan(the intake side)
Im not A fluid dynamics engineer, and I dont have A wind tunnel
But I know enough about aerodynamics to know that you are going to have A stale air pocket under the deck lid. that's why the tin and motor to body seal are so important in A stock VW bug, it forces the intake side of the cooling system to only git fresh air coming over the top of the car! and never from under the car(that's the exhaust side) were the air is hot!! you have the heat of the road, the heat from the exorcist, the heat from the heads, the heat from the oil cooler, ext..
I did not post to bust your balls,, Just to give you A heads up!! watch the temps  |

been busy with work but a little more progress.
hood on, glass in, carpet almost 100%. waiting on seat covers. Front will come down with adjusters and smart car tires 145-65-15 rears are 295-50-15 on 10" centerlines
