View original topic: ecotec wire harness diagram??

So I got my donor vehicle today. Just picked up a 2004 grand am, I managed to get the thing for a steal. So I'm taking the engine out and would like to know where you other guys got ahold of a diagram or schematic for the harness. I'd like to try and save myself the $300 and just do the hacking up myself. If you guys could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.

Secondly what axles do people go with to tolerate the power from the motor. Obviously I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on axles at the moment. But since I'm swapping the trans toh a 091 I figure the axles from the swing axle trans probably won't cut it.

And what did you guys do for an exhaust?

Thanks

Just look for an ECU "pinout" diagram on the ecotec forums and take your wire harness and lay it out on a sheet of plywood or whatever and take your time unwrapping the wire harness so that you can get to all of the wires individually. You know what you need so mark them all the way to the engine plug and cut out the extras. Just be aware that simple power wires (pink) and common ground wires (black) have mid wire connections and junctions.
I was warned about using a 6 rib without a super diff with my conversion from a very knowledgeable shop called phils bug shack. It will work but not for to long. My trans is fully Albins geared built and gusseted aluminum 6 rib, super dif, and SwayAway axles and have had no problems for 8k miles.
For the exhaust I welded up parts from scrap yard cars 96 chevy corsica, 2000 dodge ram, and a 2004 mustang. A found flowmaster 40 provided the can and works well.

What did it run you for the diff and sway away axles?? And thanks for the other answers hopefully I can track down what I'm looking for.

I got a package deal of built trans with diff, axles, cv's, "thing" outer drive stubs, and 10 deg mount for $2275 from a speed shop in colorado. I don't remember the name of the shop but it may be "pine beetles".
The axles are tough but they twist in use and give my car a little pulsing at low engine revs.

Ok, well I guess ill worry about that when I come to it. I think I may have lucked out on radiator and fans. They look to be in good shape from my donor vehicle. The only pinout I could find was a 06 cobalt, which Im sure with my luck won't work. I'm curious if I try going to a dealership if they'd hook me up with one or not.

But as far as axles go I'm hoping I can upgrade as I go along. I want to get this up and running first then go through and beef it up. Then my other problem is figuring out something to secure and protect the fuse box and ecu.

So I'm coming back to this post because I'm thinking about giving phils bug shack a call about the adapter, pressure plate, clutch, sway away and whatever else I might need. Soo just curious what axles and things you guys go with. Like I've said I have a 2.2l ecotec and 091 trans getting shipped in.

Anything I should think over??
