just brought this car home today. it is all original and not a speck of rust. i think it came to indiana from california late 80's or early 90's. the original bill of sale from carton motors ,800 east holt avenue, pomona, cal was for $2717.18. the odometer reads 29k. i think the odometer has the correct mileage. the car was left to my neighbor man after his aunt died. he told me he rode in it as a boy and when they went up a steep hill they had to turn the air off! hope you enjoy the pictures. anyone know anything about the plate frames? thanks

| was wondering if the dealer was still in business. thanks. the car has no rust. i keep looking and everything including the pans and battery area are solid.i would like to repaint the car ruby red or black. i spent three years restoring my 61 ragtop which had rust everywhere. something in me says just get it up and running and drive it as it is. kind of torn as to what to do with it. i will let go of the ac system. would welcome any thoughts. thanks |

| I'd clean it up and roll it. Welcome to the '63 Ghia club! |

If, as you say, that car is rust free and has such low miles then the best thing would be a very thorough clean up and preserve as much of the originality as you can. Pay attention to all the running gear too, it will need to catch up on that valuable maintenance missed over the years.
Roll her like she is.

I also have a '63 low mileage (52k) ghia, but the paint on mine was terrible, it had been covered over with a cheap job then randomly attacked with an angle grinder by the original owners sons.
That paint looks like it would come up pretty well with a bit of TLC. Even the interior with a good scrub would probably be OK, it just seems to have lots of mould on it.
I can't imagine the 40HP going too well with a/c on as well! Yours must be a later '63 with the fresh air, mine was built October '62 and has a stale air motor.
A big clean-up and going through the mechanicals and that will be a great original car. Mine sat for 30 years under a house and still drove nicely - fresh grease in the front end, change all the fluids, wheel/master cylinders etc and you'll be on the road again.
Good luck, great find! |

I grew up in Glendora. Colley motors closed sometime in the 90s. Not sure about the Pomona dealership.
Colley was right across from the shop my dad took my Ghia to for repairs and maintenance, and they used to get parts for it from Colley. It was owned by my 7th grade English teacher and her husband. |

| thank you for your reply! the plate frames are added pieces of the past for the car. i googled and got a colley ford dealership in glendora but no colley vw. the car came with a glove box full of paperwork from the dealership for all kinds of service work. the fees charged are a laughable! |

Colley VW I think in the 60s
Present day:
Address is 825 Alosta Ave Glendora CA 91740 if that helps you any. It was a fairly small dealership. |

I 2nd that. I could imagine have clean, but aged look for the exterior, and having the interior completely redone like it was a new car... |
