I have a good friend who worked at Economotors building GTV's and if I remember correctly that's about the time the C stripe kit started...

No word on Pete's Oval yet, Eric....

Interesting tidbit from YUSTRN's friend...if you ever run across a beetle hubcap, could either be 5 lug or 4 lug style, and it has a white, paint stick, peace sign on the inside, I'll bet Eric's buddy would like to know about it, or maybe even buy it, that is how he "signed" the GTV's and other Dealer accessorized cars he built....

C-Stripe kits definitely not used on 67's !!!!!!!!!!
You have to remember that August of 67 was the first month for the 68's.

was this one done later?

restojohnny Wed Apr 18, 2012 2:41 pm

That one is a real one. I remember when I first saw it for sale out of lousianna (I think) Chris Morley got it and I seen it in pomona and now Laurent own's it in France. It originally had 8 spokes on it but now it rolls on OG 5 spokes

Jake Martinez Wed Apr 18, 2012 2:46 pm

i thought pre 67s got pinstriped and not decals

TyeDyeBug Wed Apr 18, 2012 5:06 pm

the only real way to know is to see paperwork, the decals look to good on that patina paint

Richard Roth Wed Apr 18, 2012 5:17 pm

That car was done later.
The then owner got lucky when he filled out the lost title paperwork and got the GTV he filled in to go through.
Now everyone thinks it is genuine.

you would think economotors kept a GTV registry with vin #'s of the cars they did

restojohnny Wed Apr 18, 2012 11:49 pm

I assumed it was real because that's what was told to me by someone I look up to as far as empi collecting went  dang :? . I was wondering because my gtv doesn't have the c stripe either and neither did the gtv door's I found not tooo long ago and they are both 67's. Cool it was registered as a gtv though

A quote from a friend:

As told to me by Richard Brown who sent me this copy of the title after he was able to get it titled as a GTV, see the title date 1996. He basically told me he found a 1967 bug with a C stripe kit on it and he was going to try and title it as a GTV, which he did and then sent me the copy to show. Then he loaded it down with GTV stuff and was going to sell it.
