hey everyone
i've been lurking round this site for about a year now and decided the next step was to sign up. i think this is awesome! had many questions answered already. anyway - i have always had an interest in vw's. my fist car was a mk1 golf (grey), followed by a mk1 golf (blue), then a toyota which was written off in a crash. then came one of the best days of my life - i bought a 1968 bug in september of last year. i was planning on selling my corolla to get a vw because my dad has always been into bugs too (he had one as a young fulla and now currently has a '71 super which is what got me thinking), and i guess you could say that the crash sped up the process! my sis has just bought a '70 a couple of weeks ago, so i guess it runs strong in our family..

anyway here he is:

after installing drop spindles:

so basically it's my daily driver and project car. not that i have to do much becacuse it was in such good condition when i bought it. since buying it i have done the following with help from you guys:

- replaced all window seals
- replaced running boards
- cleaned and painted engine
- replaced fender beading
- replaced engine and trunk seal
- small rust repairs

ed is awesome. (he's called ed cause it's a choice name and i'm a massive van halen fan too) red ed.

Car looks beautiful! A fine example of a late model bug. Do you have any future plans for it?

Does the front wheels rub? I have the same drop spindels and empi 8's on 145's and mine rub like rub like champs

lukel, my future plans will be to keep it stock pretty much. i don't want to change something that i can't change back. i have the original wheels as well. i love them as close to stock as possible, same as my dad. love doing small things though. going to be making a removable rear parcel shelf for the back today which will hide my sub and speakers (pics to come).

relicstone, i had to get lower profile tyres for the front 'cause when i installed the new spindles the tryes were rubbing like a schoolkid with an eraser. the last photo shows the lower profiles compared to the first photo.

it's great to see more '68ers too! hadn't seen too many 68's on here. it's a great year! more pics:

Do you recall the size of the tires?

yup, they are 195/50R15's on the front and 195/60R15's on the back

Where might one find that late rear bumper with overrider?

ahultin, they're hard to find now.. i found just the rear one on an auction site we have in nz. a guy didn't know what they were and listed them as "vw part" for $30. sweet deal! then - a few weeks ago, i go online again and a fire damaged bug comes up for sale, and what do you know? front and back overriders, but with all the rubber. i bought them and my dad got a front and back set. they look awesome.
