a while back, someone noticed my deck lid had one square rib on both sides of the lid which nobody else seem to have. i remember the discussion but dont remember what thread it was. anyway. i saw this in the classifieds.

looks like my lid is an old replacement decklid. which makes sense because my Thing was tapped in the rear at some point early in its life. the decklid must have been replaced

I thought it was for a military decklid.

There is also a long rib model. Couple years ago I checked The Thing Shop's stack of lids and found both a short and a long version.

I'm the proud owner of a 1977 VW Thing and the Deck lid has a short rib. I think long ribs were for earlier models.
