AB westy nut Mon Apr 16, 2012 10:37 am

I'm refurbishing my fan shroud and I noticed that I'm missing the two flat retainer tabs that hold the rod for the cooling flaps in place (thanks to Rustbus for the source image). Does anyone know where I can get them? Anyone have a couple from a parts bus they could spare?

I'm also looking for a source for the barrel nuts that hold the heater cables to the flapper boxes. Any ideas? Do they have a VW part number?

Wow - I've never seen those before. I must be missing them, too!

Let us know if you find a source.

The retainer tabs are just flat rectangles with a hole on one end, you could make them yourself out of mild steel or if you want to go all out and make them springy use some of that steel strapping you find around lumber bundles.

As for the barrel nuts: http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D311%2D129%2D777

This is what I ended up doing - making my own!

I got mine from Ken Madsen at BusCo. You can get the barrel nuts nut used or new at any VW shop or supplier

Do they add spring tension by pushing on the rod?

Just prevent it from leaping out of it's slots.
