I am in the process of putting my bus back together after rust/sound proofing the interior. My first order of business was to 'de-70's' the interior. This started with a cabinet resurfacinging.. that included the pesky roll up doors that came in a lot of Rivieras. I thought this thread might be helpful to someone interested in refreshing theirs as well.
Original Cabinets... brown formica everywhere:
Ready to start putting back together after adding Lizard Skin, RAAM Audio BXTII, ensolite foam, reflectix and new carpet.. :
Old Doors.. Pretty banged up.:
New Door Parts - Cut new pieces to match old slider sizes.. then used contact cement to attach to heavy burlap.:
Broken slider door rails. I was able to re-use these.
Finished New Doors. They look pretty good.... unless you get real close (that empty wine glass may have something to do with the imperfections):
Door Rail before - Notice the sharp ridge on the inside of the rail.. this was causing issues on closing the new door.. it kept hanging.:
Door Rail After - Solution was to sand down the ridge so it was nice and smooth... works perfectly.:
Resurfaced Cabinet - After installing all new white formica and white rubber t-molding:
Doors Installed:

| Looks awesome man. very clean. My bus has the same ASI layout and I have to admit that I have a fondness for my 70s brown and plaid everywhere. Although, it is awefully dark and dingy at times. |

| By chance what are the measurements on the slats for that door? |

I'm going to rebuild my sliders as well... For some reason I'm missing one of the 4 Spiral Tracks but think I have found a close match online so I may just buy a pair there.

What size are your slats? I found some 1/4" Fiber Board at HD http://www.homedepot.com/Lumber-Composites-Plywood...reId=10051 That I was thinking of cutting into 1/2" slats if that is the original width? Then I'd Just paint it like you have. I know that 1/4" is just a little to thick for the track and was thinking I'd sand down the ends to adjust the thickness where it needs to fit into the tracks. I'm hoping though that you have a better solution for slat material so I wouldn't have to sand them down like that?
Any advice that anyone has on these tambour doors would be awesome! |
