| have been working on my 63 coupe that set for twenty years. i have changed the oil. adjusted the valves, cleaned the tank, rebuilt the carb, flushed the fuel line. i am wondering about the electronic system and what to replace. i assume points and cond. don't know about coil and v reg. i am sure there are threads on this subject someone could direct me to. i did search but had a little trouble. thanks |

I'm working on one that sat for awhile also but not as long as yours :D
Odd's are the points won't conduct. You could try burnishing them but they aren't expensive and NAPA carries them.
The good thing about points is that it is very easy to determine if you're getting spark. What I do (I have several old machines with points) is remove the dist cap & rotor button. Turn the engine so that the points are closed. Unplug the coil wire from the dist cap and either plug a spark plug directly into the disconnected coil lead or a spark tester and ground it. Turn the ign key on and simply open the points w/a small non conductive stick or similar, you should get spark when they open.
This'll tell you that the points, condensor, coil and wireing to the dist are good.
Since it's sat that long, I recommend to disconnect the coil wire & spin the engine over enough to get some oil circulated, then try to start it. Those bearings are going to be bone dry :D
Good luck

The plug should spark.
