I don't know much about how a bugs transaxle mounts are setup but heres the question.
CAN SOMEONE TOW A BUG ON A CAR DOLLY WITH THE FRONT WHEELS ON THE DOLLY IF THERE IS NO ENGINE IN THE BUG? IF NOT, CAN YOU TOW THE BUG BACKWARDS SAFELY :?: ? |

Yes, towing with the engine out presents no problems... on the type 1...
on some other VW models depending on the year, the tranny has no engine mounts, and will hang down ( support bar/ mounts boplt to engine case) this would cause trouble if the tranny is not supported. |

| And you don't need to disconnect the axles like on some FWD cars. When the engine is in, make sure you have the trans in neutral. If you can get a tow bar you don't need the dolly either. |
