| when taking the 77 convertible apart there was this thick material on the sides of the engine bay and the firewall. it seemed to be insulation, it had wire/metal in it. does this have to go back in? we are re painting the whole car and wouldn't mind leaving it out. |

| pic? sounds like the tar board, but those don't have metal on them, basically it's a sound/heat deadener |

Tar board. Mine has metal in them.
Do they need to go back in? Not really - but you'll likely want them there to help with heat and sound. |

| You well git A lot more engine noise without it! but no you dont need to put it back.. lots of guys remove it grind off the tabs and clean up the fire wall and paint it... |
