Media blast and epoxy prime. Far better than anything you can buy at AutoZone.

didnt buy it at autozon, it,s a maring grade CRC or rustoliem product my wife sells at westmarine, I have used it in the past of a multitude of things including castiron lawn funeture that have been out in the yard for over 18 years with no rust.also use it on oe tin that was rusted, blasted cleaned then primed with this.and somany other things.I wont meida blast any thing with seams or places to hold the meida, as you cant get all of it out and that can make a path for water&rust along with crap in the paint, yesIknow dont paint till it,s all gone, but I have never seen all of it gone in any car I have ever seen done.I have a friend with a extreamly expensive blast/paint job&7 years lator it,s still coming out .Just have to keep the vac handy.the car looks awassom though.

I wonder how much blast media I'll get in the face when I first turn on my defroster. Maybe I should wear goggles. :D

Yes, it does get everywhere, but you can use compressed air to get it out of the seams.

I'm just not big on stuff from a rattle can, as any solvent will cause it to bubble and peel. Rattle can just doesn't seem up to par for a NOS door. You can shoot proper primer with a purple gun from Harbor Freight and keep it cheap.

My two cents...

I understand your point, been there done that .This stuff is 93% pure zinc.the can weighs about 2x asmuch as a std full can of spray paint, I have never seen it peal on any thing.I got tired of my ceramic coated headers rusting and gave them a few sprays is a few spots&sofar no rust&no peel, but it does affect the heat retaining ability, but so does the rust.Ill spray some ceramic over the zinc to see how that does at some point in time.
I havent ever tried to weld through or weld togeather any pannels that were sprayed with it, I need to do that at some point to see how it works out.I have old style patch pannels for my vented rear quarters(with rust of corse) that I need to stick on at some point, but Im getten old&decreapid.I realy dont like working on this stuff any more.I still like the maching&building parts&motors, but as far as building and worken on cars any more been there done that oh so many times.I gess when I stoped racing I stoped liking working on cars too.
and you would be supprized as to how much you cant get out with compressed air. especialy in seams where it gets wedged in there, but vibrations will release it over the years. just like galss beading/blasting engine parts, some you can saftly and some you cant.I had a guy bring me his blasted rocker arms about 1/3 were un usable, due to the oil gallys being pluged up,I tried but only got 1 clear,so I just got more rockers. enginedont like galss beeds or glass abrasives, sand&other stuff, but you can use soda.I like diet, cant do the sugar any more.

I know what you're talking about now. I re-read and misunderstood. Anyway, I have a can in the garage. I've used it on stuff here and there. I used it on my headliner bows...

My thoughts on zinc spray is that it's kind of soft. Good for inside panels and between seams that don't get painted, but... You'd have to be really careful not to get it anywhere that is going to be painted. I think it would have really bad adhesion issues. I wonder if a ceramic topcoat would stick on an exhaust coated in the stuff.

I wish I has some more ceramic to test it with,Ill go with stainless headers from now on.the ceramic dosent last very long.unles you send it off to airborn coatings for $300.& I would rather have a stainless header for that price.I did send off my 4 wheeler header to them about 13 years ago & still looks new, but havent used it a lot. my coated scat headers lasted about 2months before rust started showing. as far as top coating the galvonize I havent had any issues with it holding paint or being soft.
