| I have a 1974 std type1. It has an engine #033 656. No number or letters in front of the number. It is a dual relief dual port engine. It appears stock as it has the California only 1974 dual heat risers. Can the california 1974 account for the odd engine numbers or could it be some kind of replacement case? Industrial engine perhaps? I can not seem to find a match it the archives. Thx for any input. |

It sounds like you have a replacement engine, but not one that VW installed. It could be an engine rebuilder with a blank case that stamped their own #'s on it to identify it.

| I guess it could have been but if it was they must have had VERY similar dies.. The size and shape of the numbers looks exactly the same as stampings on other cases I have. |
