My '63 has the original cloth headliner and it's pretty nice except for right above the cargo doors. You can see it in the picture. The two sections above the cargo doors are torn all the way across, just above the doors.
I'd like to keep it from deteriorating further if I can, but I can see it slowly unraveling as strings hang down.
I don't want to make it worse, but I'm just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I could do to patch it or stop it.
I drive the Bus on a semi-regular basis and I know that the air flow from driving it with the windows open will probably make it worse.

Ha! That's not going to happen! Especially when it's 95 degrees out. |

| Back in the old days women used to put clear nail polish on their nylons if they got a 'run' in them. Not sure if it would work, but it may stop the unraveling. |

I might give that a try. It seems reasonable. |

| Clear silicone will help and if you just put a small bead it will hardly be noticeable. I had a boat that the seat was separating I used a small amount of clear silicone and it held till the day I sold it........ |

My '66 has the same problem; headliner is fairly serviceable, except right above the cargo doors.

| Tent waterproofing stuff might do the trick. At least if it makes a old tent waterproof it should also affect the surface of the hearliner. |
