| Can anyone tell me why the signal light indicator in the speedo in my 56 only blinks once when the signal lights are turned on but they continue to blink as normal on the outside? |

what kind of flasher relay do you have? If it's got a K terminal on it, it could be the contacts for just the K circuit are bad. If so, a "quick fix" is to do like VW did later on, and move the K (Kbl) wire over to the S (49a) terminal. Now your dash light will work, but instead of in tandem with the outside lights, it will light up opposite them.

Thanks Andy, you hit the problem first time out. I changed the wire to the to one of the other terminals (I assume it was the one you suggested) and it works perfectly.
Thanks for the great advise.
Now one other problem I am hoping you may also have some idea on, the high beam light stays on whenever the headlights are turned on. It gets a little brighter on high beam but does not go out when the low beams are turned on. Any idea what may be causing it to be always on whenever the headlights are on? |

Cool, I was wondering if you had a flasher with a dedicated K terminal, so that my "workaround" suggestion would work out.
The headlights... hmmm. Is it just the dash indicator that's acting up? What are the headlights themselves doing?
I ask that becuase the dash indicator light goes to the small fusebox for the high beams. It should not come on unless the circuit is powered. I'd get out a voltmeter and check how much voltage you do have on that right high beam fuse when only the lows are on. If that headlight had a poor ground, it might be possible for current to find another ground path. If that happened then power might loop back into the high beams.
So I'd start by checking first the ground connections for the headlight wiring. Then that the other wires go where they are supposed to. (you never know if some previous owner rewired it... some people may not like the fact the low beams are unfused)
And while you're at it, not a bad time to make sure all connections are clean as possible.
