I have re-assembled the case and checked for binding as each step. When I tighten the flywheel, something keeps the engine from turning freely. The engine still turns, but its not as easy. If I loosen the flywheel, it returns to normal. Any suggestions?

I'm no where near an expert, but you might want to check your end play, it might be too tight.

I have three shims in. This engine is used, took it apart to check insides. All the old parts are just going back in

all the old parts. I'm honing the cylinders to get rid of oil glaze, and putting in new rings. The engine ran before, but had a HUGE blow-by issue. All the insides look OK, just some regular wear.

Maybe the flywheel seal needs to be pushed in farther?

I was being more of a dumb ass than usual. The flywhell seal wasn't quite all the way in, and I forgot the thin metal plate between the crankshaft and the flywheel. Thanks for your help.

If you have an O ring flywheel do not use the metal gasket.
