Hi all, I hope someone can help with a little expert knowledge on 2 areas.
1 Currently rewiring my bus with a 67 indicator stalk and have a few wires that don't seem to match the diagram.
Would be great if anyone knows where they should go or if they even need to be connected for basic indicator and light function. I do have the correct 9 pin relay but don't have the emergency light switch shown on the diagram.
2 Just fiited a SCAT gearlever and doesn't like changing gear in to neutral.
Is this a left hand drive gear lever?
View from drivers side.
View from passangers side
Does the ball on the end of the lever mechanism need to sit directly within the cup or just locate within the top opening?
The lower section of the lever hits the front end of the housing. Surely there should be no clash of any type?
Advice and suggestions appreciated as this build is on a very tight schedule. On the road to London for the Olympics and still no work on an interior started.
Cheers

:( you are on your way to the olympics? what event
seeing as there are no replies I add my thoughts
Is your bus a 66/67? our 65 and earlier doesn't have emergency flashers, so trying to wire a 67 stalk would require the hazzard switch and a hazard relay and possibly a 66/67 wiring loom - i think.
re gear stick.. first I have heard of a LHD/RHD gearstick - I'm pretty sure there is no such thing and they are all the same.
was it shifting properly before you got the scat stick?
when our empi gearstick broke, we replaced it with the same empi make/model, yet still had to faf about with the spacer under the gearstick to get all gears smooth.... so you may just need to faf more. Did you get a spacer with your scat gearstick? does your cab floor look like its been repaired/replaced at some point? |

| The brown wire is for the headlight dimmer relay, found only on '66-'67 buses. If you have the mechanical dimmer switch on the floor then don't worry about it. Black wires are usually 12V switched, so it would be nice to know where the other end of that wire is. |

| The '67 diagram shows a brown wire coming from terminal 31 of the wiper switch to one side of the headlight dimmer button. Maybe this wire is the black one? It looks long enough to reach the wiper switch. |

CoolerThanElvis,
NOT sure if what I am cutting and pasting below will help you, but when I mentioned in my LONG post about rewiring our '67, that there were some inconsistencies from the harness to the diagram, "Snoop Bob" had the following to say:
Snoop Bob wrote: I am glad you posted this. I just did the same thing in my 67. The instructions from Bob are amazing. I did find a couple of things different/incorrect, at least for my bus.
Here is what I found -
On my front light harness assembly, there were 2 BROWN wires. The instructions listed one as BROWN-WHITE to the #S high beam relay, and one BROWN to #31 on the wiper switch (ground). I sorted this by process of elimination due to length and exit placement on the harness assembly.
In his instrument harness diagram (pg 7) he has listed a BLACK wire to the wiper switch going through the middle of the harness which then connects to the fuse box and then a BLK-WHT-GRN or BLACK wire to #15 on the 9-pin box. This wire in my harness I received was actually PURPLE through the harness to a BLK-WHT-GRN to #15 on the 9-pin.
The instructions for the turnsignal switch connections show the BLACK-VIOLET wire connecting to #54S on the flasher relay. This should read #54F
One thing I don't agree with is all white fuses. VW used 2 red and the rest white. I will follow these original fuse locations unless there is something I am missing.
...
Everything else was spot on. I was really impressed with this kit. The wire color difference may be a harness to harness thing depending on stock at hand, but I figured it was worth mentioning for search/help purposes.
For the WHOLE thread on rewiring (my '67, "The Toaster"), here's that thread:
