The lock cylinder came out of the driver's door on my '67 bus. I can still open the door by pressing the button but obviously can't lock it. How can I find a new lock cylinder? Is it possible to rekey if I find a replacement?
Any advice would be much appreciated!

| Would try the "Classifieds" on this very website. If you do not find one by a "Search", then post a "Wanted" ad. |

your lock cylinder is broken. You want another from a 67. Then you can swap the wafers into it, and install it in your handle.
put some masking tape around the cylinder to keep the wafers from falling out.
I recommend lubing the door mechanism from time to time. It should be easy to lock/ unlock the cab doors. it gets sticky in the mchanisms, which stresses the part on your handle that broke. |

Sort of on the same subject. I've read people stating "67 only handle/lock". What exactly is the specific about the 67 handle/lock stuff?
Thanks,

The lock tumbler is longer than the ones that came before which is why you can't rekey another series, say a T-code handle, to an L-code.

I contacted Gabe and he is the man. He knows VW door handles and locks like the back of his hand. He actually told me the code of my key just by looking at it! That's actually a little scary. ;)
In all seriousness, if you need key or lock service on your VW, contact Gabe. His username is gabvwkey here on the forum. |
