Really?

My shocks DAMP the ride. I guess others may have a different experience.

Or did you mean yes to the towel?

If your suspension only moves maybe 2 in. then your shocks do,,,,, weight for it,,,,,,,, damn near.............. nothing!

Even with the light WAIT of the car that's enough travel for shocks to be effective.

See what I did there

Dampener is a word
The #4 defenition in 1920 websters dictionary says it can mean the same thing as damper
it does

You got a problem with antique words?

But I think they are phasing it out, getting rid of redundant words
One the book burns and we all die nobody will remember

Most shocks are digressive
I'm beginning to think the very light front ends of some of these cars just need a plain old shock, soft without any wavy spring washers to make digressive action.
Anybody know what I'm saying?

Wow. Came back to check the thread and just wow. So it sounds like there are opinions and people who have actually done it. I'm more interested to hear from those who have experience with running a shockless beam.

For the record Im talking about a narrowed beam as well. The whole point of running shockless to begin with is that you're beam is too narrow to fit shock towers. So those who have experience with running a shockless narrowed beam. How's the ride? How's it handle on the freeway. How low have you dropped it? For all of those with opinion and no experience, I appreciate your input as well. And this thread has been fun to read.

The act of mechanical "dampening" can take many different forms and doesn't have to be a conventional "shock absorber". As a matter of fact, there are vehicles that use different forms of suspension "dampening" other than a conventional "shock absorber", refering to a cylinder passing fluid through a hole to provide this so called dampening.

The truth is, i really dont give a shit whether anyone understands what i'm trying to say about shockless narrowed beams anymore. But, if you spout complete bullshit, im going to say bullshit.

This is complete bullshit.
its putting your life in danger and others lifes in danger .if you drive on the road with no shocks . spencerfvee

This is bullshit
It's dangerousYou car will ride like shit. Your car will stop like shit because all the weight transfers to the fron unregulated brad

This isnt bullshit. This is a possible bad setup.
A buddy went no shocks and it was actually comical watching him go down the street. sturgeongeneral

No shocks suck. I ran a 4" narrowed beam for 8 months. Bounced like crazy. Had some small bump steer that was just too much. Scary for my kids to ride in. jfats808

So, again, I don't give a shit except for when people are spouting bullshit. And, that if you research it, you can have a narrowed beam that will give you a ride that isn't shitty.

You got it now?

when some one has to use four letter words to make there point . they realy dont have a point to be made .. the only point you have made. is you know how to use four letter words to make your self look above every one else . makeing what you had to say pointles . people like you come on to forums and upset evertt when he reads your reply . then evertt has to come in and tell every one to clean it up or he locks down the forum and no one wins . i am sure you are a nice person . i just think you should make your point in a better way . spencerfvee.......... spencerfvee wrote: Ace wrote: We we say "shocks", we are referring to the "dampening" of the rotation of the torsion arms in the front suspension. if running with out shocks is ok safe and better . then why did vw put shocks on the frount beam ? and why even today do all cars come with shocks . ? after all this is 2012 you would think some one by now would find a better way . to me its like the wiper blades on a car . we are stuck with them . spencerfvee CaffeineJunky wrote: Trying to figure out how much to narrow my front beam. I am very plesed with my cb 2 inch narrow beam.Rides a little more bouncy than stock. I just think it starts to look funky when you get the wheels tucked in to far.BTW its shocks for me.I would not leave home with out them, the wheel men know what im talking about.

Plenty of idiots with garbage ideas and bad advice out there, as we see here

I have a 8" narrowed beam with shocks. Narrowed the gas tank and offset the towers, cut out the body, and made new lower arms. Done by KCW John said he would not do another one? SO you can have the best of both sides you just have put put more effort into it.

bugnut68 Tue May 01, 2012 9:26 am

Advice is relative... there's another guy on this site that used to proudly proclaim about driving with spindle mount wheels on the street on his complete heap of a Bug, and most recently advised there was nothing wrong with using 2.5 year old gas if it "smelled okay." Point being, one has to very wary of the advice they take off the internet.
