I just bought a 1967 beetle that will be restored completely. I would like to know what will be better to do

Just restore it to completely original state or restore it and do some custom work on it as well

I was thinking about doing custom seats and all interior pieces or should I just go with original style seats an upholstery.

The ouside color wont be a stock beetle color because I really fell in love with this electric blue that I saw on a custom beetle

The custom work will bring the value down if you try to resell it. If you don't think you'll be reselling it, do what makes you happy.

Do you also ask the tattoo artist what you should get? Either way you are going to put more money into it then it will ever be worth. It's your car. Do what make you happy. Screw everyone else.

Who are doing this work for, you or the next guy?

I'm new to VW so that is why I was asking. I have 2 68 fiat 500's right now so I want to keep with the rear engine aircooled but i want more power and I see the vw has a lot of aftermarket parts available. The guy that restored my 500's had one laying around the shop so I decided to get it.

the car will be for me but I dont want to bring the value down if i decide to resell it.

the outside of the car will be almost stock except for the european bumpers and the color, also i was thinking about lowering it too.

I would like to do a all black interior. the car is completely bare inside, it doesnt even have a headliner and the seats are in really bad shape.

The guy that will do the restoration said that he can do the seats and the headliner whatever way I would like. So the only custom work that will be done to it will be the seats, headliner and door panels. everything else will remain stock.
I will also be painting the wheels the color of the car with chrome hubcabs.

Also I'm buying the car in europe becuse I'm stationed in Italy so it is a european model and I will take it back to the US once it is done.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the US model and the european model if there are any?

Tastefull customization isn't always bad in moderation. The value of your car is gonna be in the eyes of the guy that is interested in buying it. Custom work may not bring the value down to someone looking for a custom ride and there are still a lot of people out there that are into that. In the eyes of a vw purist you are gonna bring down the value with all the custom work. Especially on a 67 being how it has more one off parts than any other year. If you are restoring it for youself I agree with the others do it how you like it. The more you like it the longer you will probably want to keep it. If you were restoreing it to sell it, in my opinion I would do very little to no customization for value purposes. Sounds like you are doing it for yourself though so make it your own. Doesn't sound like you are doing much that cant be turned back to stock besides the paint. Its body mods that will really kill ya if you were to sell it.

I'm restoring my car, going with some custom pieces but I'm also making sure I keep the original parts. I think it's important that you can take it back to mostly stock if you need to sell it.
