Fast you tube video of a 66 deluxe I found through my adventures in real estate investing :) I always bring up my passion for vws in my speeches and sometiems people approach em about vws they have in their fields etc.
I will do this one right with some gerson metal etc for front floors.
Will post more pics later
The previous owner lived in it for a year and ran a black smithing business out of it.
i will upload my interview with him later i figure it is fun to share the history and story of these vws.

getting her home last night from georgetown austin area.
Came with 4 crows feet well thats a bonus :p Better than super beetle rims :p
Came with the tabs on the trim all the way around only missing the rocker trim on the drivers side bottom rest of the deluxe trim is complete. Has all the jail bars as well. and marked og glass all the way around.
HAd those JERSEY STYLE louvers over the vents glad those fell off or rotted away there is a slight crease aboove this rear wheel.
Bumpers dont match one is slash one is pointed both have trim rear one is hacked for pea shotters also the hacked the apron as well.
Drivers door wont close needs some love i will let Will handle this as i dont want to tweak it at all. Probably as hinges got old rusty they tried to force it.
lower rocker is dented in on this side and trim missing
better pic of messed up area
Dash and parcel tray in good shape i have a block off plate for radio but need a deluxe clock
I yanked out all the orange and yellow and green shag carpet and pulled all the panels. Lots of PINK fibergalss behind all panels etc so needed to coem out right away as it was holding water.
Looks like b pillar bottom interior the 4 inches across the floor cargo area, Both cargo door lowers rotted might be easier find replacements I might even have them on my 67's |

Wasn't there a transitional period when the bumpers were mismatched from the factory? |

You probably are right most of the stuff i bought so far was older.
Lots to learn on this newer bus.
Im confused every time i see those vents in the back they are innies :p
No ice pick handles.. very confusing stuff.
Weird thing is that big back window you can actually see well out of. |

Ok got to finally work on this some. I pulled out the interior so far to see what rust is underneath and what i have to work on.
Most of the panels were from a PG/SG bus. I also have a rear bench bottom from a PG/SG and a front bench top from a PG/SG dont ask Why Those were in it. It did come witha 63 rear deluxe seat I found out from Everet in another thread. The front seats are the only correct seats i got with the bus.
Today I decided to pull out the engine and get the gas tank out. A bus that sat since the 80's probably the gas turned into varnish in the tank :p
Motor looks like a 1600 single port.
Looks Like I will have to put on new axle boots. They are torn.
The area is full of mud dobbers or whatever they are called
I Pulled the tank. Surface rust on top, but I feel it just needs a good cleaning.
Yup I was right. Gas turned into varnish and the screen is broke off in the tank.
The old fuel lines were cracked as always so those will all be replaced with new fuel hose.
You can tell when a bus sits since the 80s things grow in mysterious places. Time to clean up the area.
The titan red is coming out pretty good in the engine area. I need to scrub the oil stained area better.
Started on scrubbing off the mold mildew and crusty growths on the front etc not turning out bad.
I must decide if I run it patina or respray it. I know this nose looks good but the rest of the bus is down to metal in some areas. The titan red is gone on most of the bus.
My son Odin helped me all day long and learned a lot about tools. |

back at it... my kids will always remeber these moments growing up with their dads bus craze.
That black mold stuff on the roof is hard to get off must be an easier way.
