The past few rain storms we have had, I have opened the rear hatch the next day and water has
come out of the drain/vent holes on the bottom of the hatch. I have read the threads about the window
seal as well as the grommets having failed, allowing the water in the door.
My question to those that have either replaced the grommets or repaired them is? How did you
fix them? New or some silicon sealer?
I am thinking silicon sealer plus heat shrink tubing? What do you think, or should I just order a new
grommet for the offending side? |

I replaced them Tim which is a bit of pain but no more leaks.
I think repairing them would just put off the inevitable
of replacing down the road. Van-cafe had them. If for some
reason their on back order let me know and I can send you
a new set that you can replace later. |

Just called VC and no go on the passengers side, they say it's a dealer part so I'll try there
tomorrow. |

Tried the local VW dealer, the passenger side grommet is NLA and they checked their database
and..................NADA! None to be had/found at any dealerships.
Solution for me? I thought maybe heat shrink tubing but too much trouble getting everything off.
I smeared black RTV all over the hose and wraped evrything up in duct tape. Another use of
duct tape has been found! I didn't have to wait long for the rain either to see if my fix works.
It does, so no more rain getting the hatch. If you got a set of the grommets, you should
hold on to them! |

| You can use the drivers side one however you will need to grind the opening to match the drivers side. A Dremel Motor Tool with the correct grinding bit will do the job. Dont forget to rust proof well before installing the grommet |

It's a shame to see parts like this go NLA. That's why when I
find myself needing a part like the grommet (more of a tube)
I buy an extra set for the parts bin at home. Glad you found a
repair that keeps the water out Tim. It's not a highly visible
area and I bet you forget about it even being there. |
