Wanting to convert to discs up front. I have a '67 type 1. My front beam is stock width and I want to retain the wide five wheel pattern for my wheels. With all the aftermarket kits out there, which would be the best for my application and why?

Wilwood is good(Airkweld) but very expensive. Cb performance is what I run, decent quality and affordable. Empi works is s little cheaper, but its stressed you make sure you get the forged bracket ) oops that's for the rear). Either system will work but know that you will gain some tracking about 3/4" is average. So if your tucked or at that point where you like of your tires sticking out, its going to come out a little bit more. Csp I'm not too familiar with in quality but I hear they are pretty good too. These are the average ones most sambanites use. Someone is sure to come along and say another brand or so.

With those wheels, you may need to narrow your front beam.

be nice if they made afordable lighter ones(aluminium hats/&hubs,steel hub for the rear&aluminum hat.) so I dont have to make my own or buy the expensive ones for an ugly old bug.not sure how these cast ones would take to lightning, although the wide five would be easyer to lighten than the 4 lug that I have & fixen to redrill to 5 lug on my mill. just thinken out loud. gess I should just buy a few chunks of aluminum and make some hubs.I still cant bring my self to use my new willwood 4wheel disc for my racecar on this bug.

ive got gear-one.com brakes on the front of my baja.
i actually had them custom made, no one makes a 4 lug, combo spindle kit.
very happy with them, decent pricing. high quality.

Yea, I like WilWood, awesome products and will be around for quite some time so getting parts will not ever be an issue.. Nascar, got to love it and all the other roundy track cars that run them..... RB

I have CB's disc kit on my '67. Wide-5 Sprintstars with 205/60/15s fit easily.

Have you looked at Saco Brakes? I am looking at putting them on my '67 bus. They use wilwood pads, and there is no offset change with wide fives (no adapters) Plus, they are lots less $$$$.

Gordo.
