I'd make them out of a thin sheet (1/4") of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) plastic.

When I lived in Columbus we had a shop that specialized in all types of plastic sheeting. Hit up Google or the yellow pages for your area.

you might be able to find them across the pond , UK or Germany.

Making them should be possible, just like the spacers some of us have made for the upper portion of the spring to get rid of the 'sagging butt syndrome' - they are easy to make - usually from teflon cutting boards.
the lower pad as you know has that recessed area to catch the end of the coil, that may be somewhat more difficult to machine into the pad but I would certainly give it a try if I was stuck for a fix...

Side a piece of hose over the end of the spring and ditch the plastic covers all together.
They just hold crap and will promote rust.

do you have a picture of that?

Fantastic idea!

Daniel - Basically you are just slipping some hose (tubing) over the spring in the area that is resting on the control arm. Simple and effective. 8)

If you want to make a set of the shims, use a plastic cutting board for the material, that is HDPE. Couple of bucks at Target.
